OSAKA —

Japan Mint said Wednesday it has started to accept mail orders for a total of 142,000 sets of a 500 yen coin to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first Japanese immigration to Brazil, with the sets shipping from June 18.

Each set consists of one 500 yen commemorative coin and six ordinary coins—1 yen, 5 yen, 10 yen, 50 yen, 100 yen and 500 yen—newly issued in 2008. The coins will be in a plastic case and priced at 2,400 yen, including 5 percent consumption tax and shipping fees, according to Japan Mint.

These would be great coins to have. Largest population of ethnic Japanese outside of Japan. If they never immigrated to Brazil, we would never have seen Gracie Jiu Jitsu!

Please clarify, are there one or two 500 yen coins? Either way the cost of the coins is far in excess of their face value. That's a rather expensive plastic case.
