To continue along the line of your human body analogy, can you explain what the treatment is for hypothermia or hyperthermia? Does the body self regulate or is hospitalization required when its core temperature reaches or exceeds certain threshold temperatures?
Where you thinking of Douglas Adams' "sentient" puddle at all when you wrote that?
I ordered snow for November this year as I want to go skiing and will be back in Oz by December. This early fall is just a test before it moves north for me
believers of Al Gore are idiots, best ignorant fools. Let me pose a question, how does the changes of surrounding planets and universe, explosion of stars and production of heat in galaxies affect earths temperature. Stop talking as if the earth we are living is an isolated, in the vacuum type of system.
How does the flactuation of sun's temperature affect the earth's temperature? CLIMATE cannot be accurately predicted more than a few weeks ahead with any respectable degree of reliability. The unpredictability even of a simple mathematical object whose initial state is not known in sufficiently fine detail has long been proven.
EL NIno and its twin La Nina are different from global warming. The early snowfall maybe is a result of La nina effect and not a result of global warming.
bluespaceoddity I am aware there are extremes and you may consider that is what teh earth faces now.
I am aware that if you put a human in a pot of boiling water they can not rely on homeostasis to survive it...
You can always say but what if and add a silly extreme to show homeostasis would fail. What if a ball of frozen methane crashed into the earth and ignited in the atmosphere heating the earth to hundreds of degrees or changing the atmosphere to become 40% methane.
But my point while observing these reports of record coldness and snow 58 days early that defy the Global Warming theory being a forgone conclusion....
and also observing that most life forms on earth that are only suited to a very narrow climate range as we have (as getting hypothermia shows)
My conclusion is this
Life could not be possible without a highly homeostatic earth over a vary long period.
The proof of the earths homeostatic capicity is in our very existance. And the excellent response of nature to warming that Gore points out.
We are facing medium term Global cooling not warming.
The Gulf stream Already changing! in such a short term will adjust the heat flows and once again cause the re freezing of the ice caps.
Get your woolies out man!
You should watch again the inconvenient truth and not jump to the conclusion you think it indicates before you even press play.
First, the sky-is-fallin' folks said it was "global warmin'" and "global warmin'" only.
"Climate change" only came up years after the first set of assumptions about the earth's climate never panned out. Usin' the term "climate change" was a good tactical move for those that need a cause - any cause - or just flat-out want to scare us: Any change in climate can now be attributed back to "global warmin'" as you see some GDubya acolights do here in this thread.
It's a win-win for sky-is-fallin' hand-wringers. No matter how the climate changes the deeper their religious convictions on this subject.
Note to GDubya acolights: Weather constantly changes. That's why it's called "climate".
For the flat earth theorists, yes Mt Fugi does stick up above the ground and the wind chill factor is high up there but does that cause snow? Alas no! not unless there is a little black cloud full of the white fluffy stuff and the snow fairy is prepared to open up the little black cloud.
For the realists, yes some of the so called research on global warming is rubbish but many scientists are prepared to go along with it to reduce polution. However rubbish research clouds the issues allowing politicians to come up with stupid ideas like carbon trading that will do nothing to solve the problem of global warming if it does actually exist. To attack any problem the problem must first be defined and I have seen no sign of this happening to date. The main emphasis has been emotive and placed on economic consequences and scare mongering so bigger profits can be made by the biggest poluters (government doing nothing about fuel prices as higher prices reduce emmisions "more rubbish"). Global warming needs to be pulled back politically and a two pronged approach taken; firstly the researchers need to define the real problems if there are any and governments have to bring poluters into line as polution will destroy us all (well the poor of us that is)if it is not strictly controlled, with or without global warming.
For those about to bring China into the equation and start commy bashing, the Chinese government is finding it hard to control capitalists there who keep opening up dirty power stations after the government closes them down. It is greed for profits causing most of the polution in the world and your share investments cross all political bounderies.
On the NHK news last night they reported that this supposed "earliest snow for 100 years" was actually hail, and they showed footage of the hail falling, but the meteorological agency decided to consider it snow anyway. Since hail can fall at any time of the year, hail falling on August 9th it doesn't really say anything about global warming one way or another; as far as this issue goes it's a moot point.
mikihouse - your comments on global warming are barely more sophisticated than those who come up with comments like "my gas bill last winter was higher than ever, so global warming must be rubbish" or those who seem to credulously believe that George W Bush knows better about the impact of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere than the large majority of the world's climate scientists...
