You won't have much choice other then to pay the fee. When broadcasts go digital very soon, there will be a large message blocking your screen advising you to pay, then the nag window will disappear. NHK have already announced this in the Japanese press.
One, the group in question here, Violence Against Women in War-Network Japan, with its Japanese members, once again counters the oft repeated stereotype of all Japanese as war mongering, racist, xenophobic sheep that are ignorant of their past,
Second, this group also calls for the removal of U.S. bases in Okinawa due to the sexual violence there (their own words). This alone should temper any enthusiasm from many here who would ordinarily back up 120 percent such an organization.
Third, apparently only "free speech" applies to non Japanese nations to some.
When my wife and I got our system set up, the cable company told us expressly that our NHK fee is included in the monthly payments we make to the cable company. So I want to know why NHK continues to knock on my damn door demanding money, when they don't give a damn about the public (as this story shows clearly) and none of their executives have been jailed for stealing millions of yen of our fees for hostess bars and the like, and yet they have the nerve to tread on human rights as if they are nothing! (Again, as this case clearly shows!)
Moderator: All readers back on topic please. Whether or not you pay your NHK fees is irrelevant to this discussion.
The plaintiffs should keep fighting for their own right by focusing on NHK's violation of media ethics. What NHK did against the BAWW-NET is apparently, a deception, an interpellation, and a manipulation. Here are the two things that need to be addressed:
Is it legal that politicians lobby the mainstream media to create the partisan narratives in the production of the news documentary? NHK is not government-funded TV, it is Public Broadcasting Service.
NHK spent more time featuring the opponent's perspectives on the Comfort Women Trial. In the process of editing, they deleted most part of proponent’s speeches, and filled in the footages of European war, which is totally irrelevant to the issue. They deliberately misled the viewers into believing that the issue is partisan, and fabricated because the trial has several problems. They abused their right(freedom of expressions) by restricting the right of the civil organization through four- night documentary. Isn't this NHK's behavior egregious violation of freedom of speech and expressions of the proponents? If not, how would you call this report fair and square, when you frame the narratives in favor of conservative politicians and right-wing activists?
Chant for the BAWW-NET, and boo for the NHK, the LDP, and the Tokyo Supreme Court.

Another reason NOT to pay NHK their rip off monthly fee!
This is truly disgusting! I bet the outcome would have been a LOT different if unequal opportunity Japan had had WOMEN on the bench of judges!

Several interesting thoughts here.

Definitely some are. (As there are such types in most countries.) I've never heard anyone claim ALL.
LOL!! A person can agree with an organization on some issues and disagree with them on others. Unless, of course, they are a sheep.
