Survey says 63% of singles want partner before Christmas

More single men than women seem to feel lonely before or during the Christmas season and long to meet someone before Christmas, according to a recent survey organized by a private Tokyo-based company.

In the survey, released Wednesday by the Nozze, a match-making organization with around 30 offices nationwide, and conducted by an Internet research company, 63% want to find a girlfriend or boyfriend between November and Dec 24.

The survey, conducted from Nov 20–25, covered 300 unmarried men women in their 20s to 40s. The results showed that 70% of men and 55% of women answered they want to find someone before Christmas or had felt that way at some point. Of these, when asked why they want to find a partner, 40% said “it’s the season of love,” 31% said they didn’t want to spend Christmas alone, and 2% said they wanted a present.

Asked how they would go about it, 34% said they will go to “gokon” (matchmaking) and other parties, while 24% said they would make it known to those around them that they are looking for someone.

Meanwhile, 32% of those surveyed answered they already had someone, and among these, 33% said they want to spend Christmas at home, 13% said at a nice restaurant and 8% said they’d like to go somewhere with illumination.

Who knows, maybe Santa got a bulk deal on partners this year and may just leave one under all the trees of all the good little single boys and girls out there...

In Japan, Christmas Eve is all about lovers for some reason. If you don't have a date on Christmas Eve, you are unloved, or not loved exclusively.

My wife lives a few prefectures away, and darn near lost her mind when she found out I have to work all day Christmas Eve and in the evening also. She thought for sure I would be going to visit her. She is not having being alone, and is coming all the way for the paltry time we will have together that night.
