I had a look at these islands on Google Earth *uncensored version. Those islands are far beyond Japanese territory. They have no business being that far South of mainland Japan.

JT never provides a map jpeg to make it very clear to the readers where this is happening. Intentional? Can't *Print Screen?

Those Chinese Islands are very far from Japan.

One of the four Taiwanese patrol ships carried a Japanese-language banner reading: “This is territory of the Republic of China,” a Japanese coast guard official said.

Hahaha. Some Japanese people should go to Taiwan and walk around with a similar banner saying “This is territory of the People's Republic of China", just for giggles.

Netniinja, if you simply go by distance, these islands are far more Japanese than the Fauklanmds are British. And there's no explaining Russia claiming the southern Kuriles part of which you can see from Japan.

China claimed all the islands and waters thousand of kilometers from the mainland. Apparently, 20 km from the shores of Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines and some part of Indonesian waters (claiming all the SOuth China Sea) as their own, ... as if South China Sea is "South China Lake", a lake inside CHina. THis is based accordingly from the fake (no carbon-dated) documents from the empire of Kublai Khan.

Don't laugh. You may just get what you wish. Hahaha!

The people living in the Falklands are British and want to remain so. The people living in the Southern Kuriles are Russian and want to remain so. And so, who are we referring to on Diaoyutai/Senkakau? The plankton? Or perhaps the moss?

And next they'll claim that Yonaguni is part of Chinese territory since it's visible from Taiwan on clear days. And maybe those parts of Yokohama and San Fransisco with all the signs and restaurants, too. More nonsense from them.

    OssanAmerica

Pukey, I am talking about the "Distance" issue so your response is irrelebant, unless you want to show that the FAulklands are closer to Britain than Argentia. As for the Southern Kuriles, just so you know, the Russian people weho are living on the southern kuriles immigrated there AFTER the Russians forcably evicted every Japanese living on those islands 3 YEARS after the war ended,. In fact the RUssians took those islands AFTER Japan surrendered to the allies in WWII which is whu the US, UK and EU considers them Japanese territory under "Russian occup[ation".

These Senkakus were incorporated into Japan through internationally recognized protocol as Terra Nullis. They wer never taken by force or greed and were not not caimed by any other nation. This is why Japan was permitted to keep them after WWII unlike their other territiories that had been forcably taken. The sEnbkakus also fall under US Defence parameters under the US-Japan Mutual Defense Treaty so, so much for anyone taking it by force. China's claim is a joke since it is globallyy known that they suddenly claimed it after oil/gas were found in in 1970. As for Taiwan's claim, they'd have more weight if they were a sovreign country first. SAccotding to China they are not, merely a "runaway province" of the PROC.

Don't rock the boat baby?? Do the bump?? Maybe they were partying too much to 70s music and got carried away??

  • 0

    dragsby

@Okinawamike it's just a simple error. Japan drives on the left, and since 1946 Taiwan has driven on the right. One side tried to give way and accidentally bumped the other. I'm sure there was no deliberate hostility.

    [cough]

BTW, if you had an inkling of geology and geography, you'd see these are also part of the Japan island arc, extending from the kurils in the north through japan main islands, the ammo's, Ryukyu's etc. Since their are no people living there, the Senkaku's have no political history, unlike the Ryukyu's.

These islands belong to Okinawa and thus to Japan. The Republic of China better mind their manners! Either that or they should join the Peoples Republic of China. There were NEVER any Chinese living on those islands.

  • 1

    Tiger_In_The_Hermitage

Historically Vietnam was part of China, their kings need to pay homage to Chinese Emperors. Like Taiwan being part of China. Even Okinawa historically was an alliance and paid homage to Chinese Emperors. History and our choice of interpretations..... The west has the guns hence their version is most popular.

  • 1

The islands will "belong" to Ishihara soon; a sale that I'm sure would hold up to international scrutiny.

Why do so many people not grasp the fundemental notion that territory does not depend on proximity. Why is Europe the only part of the world that can handle this? Although Spain.. We dont see the French parading around Jersey or the Channel Islands demanding it be theirs.

  • 1

    Tom Webb

It was my understanding that the islands were privatey owned. After the Revision of Okinawa, that also included these islands, the former owners were not allowed back but the islands were leased to JP government.

  • -4

    CrazyJoe

They must be Red Chinese agents on board. the Taiwan ship. There is no "dispute" since these islands, historically and legally belong to Japan.

  • 3

    Ch1n4Sailor

The boat, moving in the same direction as one of the Japanese patrol ships, bumped into it and scratched the paint.

What they didn't try to arrest the Taiwanese Coast Guard members...? And haul them back to Japan for a trial...? LOL....

Oh, they must have seen somebody riding by on a bicycle, and decided to check their bicycle registration.

I have a solution that I think the Chinese will appreciate it.

Simply move your people there. Because of the limited amount of farmland give them the right to bear arms. Modified AK-47s for hunting. Populate the islands. Japan has no right to even set foot on the island. Just alter the law a little bit so the residents have the right to defend themselves from intruders.

@yurotani: You should show more manners and gratitude to The Republic of China which donated a large amount of money to Japan in the aftermath of 3/11.

The present Taiwan's ruling party the KMT(Nationalist) is very different with the past, their leader Ma YingJeo has strong family heritage of anti-Japanese tradition! And Taiwan is not big difference like North Korea in terms of strategic means China is the one controlling their economy much of the trades were coming from China for the sake of the island's surviving! The KMT party chief Mr Lien Chan frequently goes to Peking to receieve commands from the communist party! Dont be surprised with this news because Japan is the most resentful country in east asia with the disputes of maritime border, japan has been too aggressive over their issue of 'soverignity'! Taiwan is now a new member of this joint encirclement leaded by China with Russia, S Korea, N Korea!

  • -2

    Bob Sneider

The liancourt rocks are seriously right next to Taiwan. Taiwan could move people there and the Japanese couldn't do anything.

  • -1

    YuriOtani

Bob, the liancourt rocks are in possession of the ROK. They now belong to ROK. Japan needs to drop all claims to those rocks. However the Senkaku are part of Japan. Japanese have lived and worked on those islands. The gutless National government took away the rights of the owners to live and work on their property. If does leave them open to invasion by Chinese "fishermen".

akk1, the Republic of China has to understand that if Japan gave up their right to them, the Chinese will take them by force. Again as far as I no nobody from Taiwan has ever lived on those islands. What they are doing is harming relations with Japan and empowering the Peoples Republic of China. Until the question of two Chinas is answered there can be no agreement with the ROC. It would be a disaster for the PRC to get possession of those islands. Since it would leave Okinawa islands vulnerable to attack. Thus any war will start in the South China Sea as the area is like dry wood and grass waiting for spark. All of our fat will sizzle in that fire.

Why do so many people not grasp the fundemental notion that territory does not depend on proximity. Why is Europe the only part of the world that can handle this? Although Spain.. We dont see the French parading around Jersey or the Channel Islands demanding it be theirs.*

Because Europe as the MAJOR COLONIAL COUNTRIES [since many centuries ago and only ceased after WW2] secured lots of advantages of having colonies converted into own territories around the globe. Just look at the map. That's why UK claims the Malvinas (Falkland) which is located thousand miles away from it.

What's so difficult to understand that's why Europe is quite supportive that proximity should not be a major consideration in one country's territorial claim? :D

As said by TigerInThe_Hermitage, **The West has the (bigger) guns hence their version is the most popular. That's why they can dictate their opinion and impose their own rules upon the world so far... **

Qomolangma Japan is not part of the Europe or been a member of the colonial club. What does Argentina's claim to the Falklands have to do with this issue? Suppose they will remove or kill the 3000 British Citizens if they can secure the islands. Again what does this have to do with Japan?

  • 1

    Farmboy

Those Chinese Islands are very far from Japan.

Those Japanese islands are very far from Japan. My big toe is pretty far from my brain, but I still claim it, and would be annoyed if someone else tried to walk off with it. Still, the bumping boats thing is a little childish.

  • 1

    just-a-bigguy

China has given a big 'black eye' and now the little 'black eye' given by Taiwan! Japan has no soverignity over the east sea and their coast guards were pirates!

  • 0

    YuriOtani

Farmboy the islands are 96 miles from the nearest Japanese territory vs 110 from Taiwan and 193 miles from the Peoples Republic. Second Japanese have lived and worked on those islands. This is the telling point and there would be Japanese there if it was not for the spineless national government. Appeasement just does not work! Next they will demand Yonaguni and wonder if the Americans will defend that or any of the islands. After all they do not want to risk war with China for a few small islands. Then will come Okinawa itself, just give it up for peace yea right. Anyhow it was bump them or fire on them. If the Taiwan fishermen landed, then Taiwan would use force to defend them. Really would people be happier if Japan sank the Taiwan coast guard boat with a harpoon missile? Japan and the Republic of China need each other. Lets hope cool heads prevail.

    avenger

As China slowly creeps up seeking new territory, Japan continues to try and get the Americans to leave Okinawa.

  • 1

    YuriOtani

avenger, the SDF will replace the Americans, I am very sure we can hold up the Chinese or the Russians. At least until the Americans move up in force. If America can not be relied on to help defend Japan it opens a door that best remains not just closed but locked.

YuriOtani, in which line did i say or simply imply that Japan is part of the Europe or been a member of the colonial club?

Though your comment just reminds me about the past history of "The Eight-Nation Alliance" invasion into China at which Japan took a major role. Will you say that it's untrue? Well, just try your luck to tell the same story to the Korean and SE Asian that Japan had never practiced a colonial role :)

About your query upon the future fate of the 3000 British citizens at Malvinas Island, just repatriate them to the mainland of Britain. You can't implant few thousands in a territory and later ask them to vote in which country they want to attach to :D such dirty trick of the past legacy simply won't work.

But again, I must admit that at present the British guns are bigger so i guess the Argentina will have to swallow the inconveniently imposed situation until they're quite ready (!)... after all the Malvinas island will go nowhere but remain near to them :-) They just need to make sure that the British is unable to further loot the natural resources there!
