Interesting that nobody here has been to the museum, knows anything about the place, who runs it, or why, but that doesn't stop the strong expression of viewpoint. This must be a miracle.

It's pretty sad that whenever there's any reference to anything Jewish, be it the Holocaust or anything else, some people, who of course are not antisemitic or anything like this, find the need to speak against the Jews.

It would be nice if one group didn't have a monopoly on the victim label but rather the reality of the dark side of human nature is revealed. It is a disservice to humanity when things are so unbalanced.

Actually, the Holocaust center sounds like it might be trying to trade on that victim monopoly. From their website.

"The Holocaust Education Center" is located in Fukuyama-city, forty-five minutes from Hiroshima City where the atomic bomb was dropped fifty years ago, and one hour and ten minutes from Osaka.

I can't believe this story for a moment! My wife and I were there just this past April, and there was more than 10,000 visitors that day alone!! Seems like a publicity stunt to me.

did she look up from her keitai?

  • smithinjapan at 10:36 PM JST - 30th August

Didn't even know it was there. That being said, next time I'm in Hiroshima I'll go check it out.

I DO find it a little sad that so many on here have to find something wrong with their being such a place. So long as it is educational, truthful, and gives people some idea of what happened I don't see it as anything but good.

It's a Holocaust center that teaches people about the Holocause. If it was a "Global Genocidal Center" and only taught about the one involving the jews than you might have reason to be concerned about an unbalenced view of how terribly some groups have been treated. And I think that the 'victim' label is spread quite evenly all over the world including many minorities that you've probably never even heard of.

I for one have always applauded Jewish efforts to educate people about the evils of prejudice and genocide with the hopes that the former is lessened and the latter never happens again.

So why the atomic bomb reference on its website?

    Hmmmmm....

So Japan points the finger of accusation for genocide at Germany with a Holocaust center, but shifts, dodges, plays a political and diplomatic shell game, and shadow-boxes when it comes to 'fessing up about their own genocidal undertakings 1895-1945?

    Interesting....

  • Farmboy at 07:25 AM JST - 31st August

    Blue Tiger,

The center is not run by "Japan," and is not pointing any fingers. Have you been there?

  • The758 at 08:28 AM JST - 31st August

Since when have the Japanese had any interest in the Jews or their culture? Seriously.

  • Farmboy at 09:25 AM JST - 31st August

    The758,

Well, there are several groups that believe they are descendants of one of the Lost Tribes of Israel. They've been around for awhile. There are also groups of Japanese Christians that are interested. It does seem strange that there are connections, but the connections are there.

Did 100,000 people really visit the Holocaust center?

  • Kouseikun at 02:43 PM JST - 31st August

The center has been open for 15 years and they just got their 100,000th visitor? That's only an average of 20 visitors a day!?

I will comment on that as well; for a museum of sorts to be so popular, how can it only get 20 visitors per day? That boggles me.

there was more than 10,000 visitors that day [this past April] alone!!

But that number sounds too large for me to believe...

    Aha! Holocaust center admissions denial!
