Going through the process of claiming myself actually, luckily have the backing of a business association i am a member off so it shouldn't be excessively painlful, but there is still a fair bit of mucking around to do it.

Too late! The J-Gov just spent it sending the Coast Gurd to the southern ocean to protect their "uhum" research vessels.

don`t give it to tepco - they should sell off more assets first

TEPCO should be nationalized, cut up and sold to pay the victims.

So ... TEPCO is loaning another 700 billion yen to pay off the victims.
And TEPCO is planning to increase the power consumption charges to be able to pay off the victims, and the loans.
So ... TEPCO consumers are (and will) paying for the victims, and the loans.

I say give it to them... in the form of nationalization and a swift kick in the ass (preferably with a pointy Italian shoe, or steel-toed boot). They ask for understanding? ask THEM to understand. They claim to be victims? point to the victims before giving them said kick and telling them to wake up. Either way, TEPCO needs to go the way of the dinosaur.

Pass on burden to taxpayers, where's the problem? This is the norm in this country, a domestic issue and good "understanding" between the govt and businesses. shouganai :(

Edano, save us the time and tears, just pass a bill to give tepco 1 trillion yen a month (1/2 for their bonuses), and the 1st born child of every family in Japan for the next 40 years (for "research" - whaling style)

if you're giving them that amount of money, nationalize it, so there is some kind of accountability. Why TEPCO hasn't been liquidated first is beyond belief

if it does go through, force all officers of the company to eat whale meat as a condition of receiving funds

TEPCO should be taken over first, by the government, the only people who will lose their jobs will be the board. Sell off the more than ¥200 billion assets and also the nuclear power plant in Niigata.

Lie after lie after lie after... well, if you still, STILL receive comfort from what TEPCO spouts, ha, well, good luck. Lie after lie. They WILL be nationalized.

According to a study led by Andreas Stohl the Norwegian Institute for Air Research, twice as much radioactive cesium-137 — a cancer-causing agent — was pumped into the atmosphere than Japan had announced, reaching 40 percent of the total from Chernobyl. The French Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety found 30 times more cesium-137 was released into the Pacific than the plant's owner has acknowledged.
And that is the number one reason why I am going to leave japan next year.

I pray and hope the people of Fukushima relocate to other unpopulated areas and start again.

TEPCO does not have enough cash, even after the sale of all its assets to pay out more than ¥2 trillion in compensation and more than ¥20 trillion to deal with the nuclear disaster.
