Well regardless, its not the tiger's fault the gate was open. Its the zoo keeper's negligence that killed him. The Tiger acted on instict alone when it went in and saw the zoo keeper.

Wonder if the tiger would be put down for it's crimes.

  • kinniku at 09:13 PM JST - 8th June

    Triple888,

I was wondering about this as well. The tiger was just doing what came naturally to it. It is a wild animal.

It is a sad story though. I feel for the man's family, co-workers and friends.

My condolences to the tigers that are imprisoned for their entire natural lives, in confined quarters, in a foreign country, for the sole purpose of earning money off of them.

    I don't visit zoos because it's unpleasent.

I don't visit aquariums with Japanese because they make comments like oishiso (oh that looks delicious).

I've just seen happenings like this have taken place in California, Detroit,Indiana,London, Australia, Shri Lanka, Germany and so on. Then why would someone write: "Oh, how japanese is this story!!".

Daniel, exactly. Whenever something goes wrong in Japan people on this website jump in to say "it's only because the person was Japanese" or some such. Really it's quite ridiculous.

A man may have made a mistake that cost him his life here. But bringing nationality into this is clearly racist given accidents involving predators happens in zoos and similar institutions all around the world.

****The weight is 133 lbs. We need to remember that we don't use the metric system in this country, people.

Moderator: Japan does use the metric system.

  • cleo at 11:15 AM JST - 9th June

'This country' is Japan, and we do use the metric system.

    What weighs 133 lbs?

  • tclh at 12:17 PM JST - 9th June

What weighs 133 lbs? I think it should be 331 lbs or about 150 kilo...and everyone should use metric system,PLEEEASE.

I always get a certain black satisfaction when I read stories like this one. It's very, very tough on the family of this man, and such an awful, frightening way for a life to end.

But these beautiful creatures belong in the wild, not behind bars for the entertainment of the general public.

Zoos are cruel and stupid. We have digital technology now and planes we can use to go see animals in the wild. Zoos were invented before these technologies. It is now time to phase out these barbaric jails.
