URAYASU —

Tokyo Disneyland on Thursday kicked off its annual Halloween festival which will run through Nov 3. The festivities will be held at both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea for the first time.

The festival will include a daily Mysterious Masquerade show, hosted by Disney characters dressed in Halloween costumes and fun-loving ghosts.

It's getting earlier every year. I suppose the Christmas festivities will start in October this year.

smartacus: Agreed. And actually, you DO start seeing Christmas adds in October in some places.

While I would love to go if there were no crowds, and want kiddies here to have fun and experience Hallowe'en, Japanese kids have got to be messed up with all the importing of foreign 'holidays' and traditional Japanese ones. It's always only half-a$$ one way or the other.

I totally agree. Enough with the Halloween and Christmas. They should just stick with the traditional Japanese holidays. I never liked the costumes at Halloween here, and hate it when KFC has long lines on Christmas day (although I am glad that Christmas hasn't turned out like it is in America, where it is now just a time to showcase a ton of commercialized college football bowl games, year after year).

I look forward to New Year's a lot more, with the traditional "ozoni" and "hatsumode" at a local shrine (since lines at major shrines are too long) with the free "amazake" and "mikan". It's also nice to see the little kids dressed up during the celebration of "shichi-go-san". Mickey should wear more kimonos and yukatas. That would be much better.

Cool. I went to Walt Disney World in Florida more than 10 times. But Tokyo Disneyland will not be on my touring list if I want to go to Tokyo.

Disneyland's Hallowe'en is cute compared to the chaotic parade in Kawasaki.

I guess Japan needs these festivals to get consumers to buy. Nothing is about religion. It's all about merchandising...

So . . . before Easter is Disney going to put on a Passion Play and nail Mickey Mouse to a cross?

Disney land sucks for the following reasons: Cost/Smells foul/Long lines/Those stupid looking gaijin thinking they are cool/ crap food....and to boot...no beer. You have to be drunk to enjoy the place.

Ha ha ha... Ok, a view of drunken gaijins attacking on Cinderella would not be a good advertisement for the future of this park.

That's what the holidays are all about here in the USA as well.

Yes, but in the US, many are religious enough to go to church. In Japan? Only the fake ones at weddings!
