Ethics are just a minor inconvenience NOT. The use of tissue samples in "research" without obtaining permission is something I would associate more with Josef Mengele. Pick up your game.

They are subscribing to Japanese business policy: 'It's only wrong if you get caught'

Title should be "Tokyo Univ researchers skip necessary administrative procedures for medical research"

Seems that nothing in their behaviour compromise their results. (and go easy with the Mengele comparison. I... for some reason... know of some scientist that are really pulling a 'Mengele' on their patients... those folks look like angels in comparison)

This is an insult. Medical research is not one of those jobs you can half-ass around. I'm in health-care myself, and even though my role may be minor to a degree, the consequences of me doing my job properly are dire and the results are serious.

People like this need to lose their licenses when it comes to dealing with other peoples lives and health. Doing things wrong intentionally in this field is not something to take light of.

HonestDictator, you seems to be more on the clinical than on the research side. Don't go too hard on them. They are not doing so for fun, they just cant remove their head from the bag that is their research field.

After working in Japanese high schools for the past decade this comes as no surprise at all. This is only the tip of the iceberg. There is more creative accounting than education.
