Tokyu department store east wing closes at Shibuya after 78 years

The east wing of Tokyu department store at Shibuya Station closed Sunday night after 78 years.

Since 1934, the east wing, which was directly accessible from Shibuya Station, has been one of the main shopping spots in the area. It will be demolished as the part of the major redevelopment continuing at Shibuya Station.

The famous food court Toyoko Noren Gai will be moved to Shibuya Mark City.

great food court down there!! Some really high quality stuff. At least they are moving rather than closing.

About time, that place was really looking its age. Need to bring it into the 21st century.

I liked it a lot. Good that they are just moving across the street.

But the last century was the heyday of Japan.

Tokyu in Shibuya has got a good food basement, particularly an extensive selection of reasonably priced beers and wines. Impossible to shop upstairs without getting disoriented though.

Shibuya is ok, but come on, there are way better places to shop for food etc...
