That's odd and tragic. Usually Jp operators/conductors at train stations are quite good at observing people in and around the trains. There must be more to this in that this storyteller was in some weird blind spot. I doubt it's anything to do with gross negligence, poor training, or other non issues, if there was such a problem then we'd see tons more people being killed in these types of situation but I hardly read of any. At any rate sad and hopefully he will recover.

So he was getting off the train and fell in the space between the train and the concrete platform? I've never seen such a wide enough gap to allow for a pair of legs to fall into. A definite safety issue for all passengers.

There must have been some people around. Afterall, it was in Osaka. Did anyone help him or take any kind of action?

I saw a drunk guy fall off a platform in Osaka once and the train was just a minute or 2 away. The Japanese public leapt into action. One ran for the conductor who quickly hit the alarm, while 4 men jumped down onto the tracks and got the guy out of there. The train turned up 10 minutes late.

I am sure that if someone saw this guy fall into trouble, they would have definitely spoken up.

I recently saw a blind guy (complete with white cane) holding the arm of his guide as they boarded a train. His guide was also holding a white cane.

I literally saw the blind leading the blind.
