Saitama Prefectural Police said Tuesday that train services on the Tobu Isesaki Line were suspended for about 10 minutes earlier this month after a police car got stuck on the tracks in Kasukabe.
The incident occurred at around 5 p.m. on March 17, TV Asahi reported.
According to police, as soon as the patrol car went onto the crossing, the signal went on and the barriers came down. The officer in the car said he thought it better to sit tight rather than crash into cars waiting on either side of the tracks. The train was able to stop in time, Tobu Railway said.
Police officials said the 33-year-old driver of the patrol car was given a traffic ticket and reprimanded.

was he driving THAT slow that he couldn't cross the tracks in time?!

No Ricky, he made the mistake of entering the crossing before the exit was clear and ended up with nowhere to go.

Whoops! I think the chances of this officer living this one down are pretty slim. I imagine that he'll be on foot patrols and mopping out the lavatories for a while yet.
