Truck-car collision kills man and son
KUMAMOTO —
A man and his son were killed when their car collided with a 16-ton truck at an intersection in Uki City, Kumamoto Prefecture, on Sunday. According to police, Kazuaki Fukuda, 40, from nearby Misato, and his son Kohei Nakamura, 11, suffered severe head injuries during the collision and were unconscious when authorities arrived, but died soon after they arrived at the hospital. The driver of the truck, Shuuichi Yamaguchi, 52, suffered minor injuries.
According to police, Fukuda, who lived apart from his son, had been driving the boy to a soccer game when the accident occurred. Yamaguchi was on his way to Hiroshima at the time.
The accident occurred at an intersection with no traffic lights where a smaller side road merges with the main road. The area is surrounded by rice paddies with little obstruction. Fukuda was coming off the side road when he was hit head-on by the truck. Police are currently investigating details of the accident.

Very sad. He had rare child access when separated, he made an effort to be a father, and look what happens. Life is very cruel at times.

don't mess with 16 ton trucks head-on. open rice-paddy road with no obstructions, another sad story of an inattentive driver.

The inattentive driver may have been the father. According to the news I saw, his lane had a stop line. If this is true, I hope that the truck driver doesn't get pulled through a ringer for it. RIP to dad and son. Get well soon to truck driver.

Sad end to a day with dad. It would seem that, if he had waited 15 seconds he and his son would have enjoyed their soccer game and probably the rest of their lives. A good lesson for most Japanese drivers.

^^ oh come on. Still looking for those "black helicopters" too?
In my experience, all accidents are meticulously investigated with every detail being logged. Even matching every little piece of plastic and paint transfers scattered around the scene.
btw, I noticed all these articles say "the victims died upon arrival at the hospital". This is a mix of mis-translation and apparently, Ambulance crews are not qualified to pronounce someone dead at the scene. Once they arrive at hospital, a Doctor is the only one who can pronounce them dead and it's only when he see's them.
