Two bears show up on golf driving range in Saitama

SAITAMA —

Two black bears startled golfers on Thursday when they appeared at a golf driving range in Iruma, Saitama Prefecture.

Police said there were seven people on the range when the bears appeared at about 4:50 p.m., TV Asahi reported. Nobody was injured and the bears, believed to be a mother and her cub, quickly departed, police said.

These bears may just be ranging farther than usual due to the extreme snows.

Probably trying to hibernate but were disturbed by golfers. Bet they awoke with sore heads.

It was quite a boo-boo of momma bear to bring only one cub to the range. You need a whole set of cubs to play golf! And walking on the fairway as people are playing was un-bear-ably poor golf ettiquette!

First a "Tiger", now this. Good for the mom...while other bears are just lazing around doing the typical "hibernation" thing, these two are getting a little exercise. They must have already been to the putting green.

The bears are probably from Kumagaya anyway.

Good point, never heard of Irima, most likely IRUMA, very big Japanese airforce base out there and a real nice Shopping center outlet mall too, did not know they had bears, let alone wild and looking for a nice game of golf??
