Two women drown after car goes into lake in Hiroshima Pref
HIROSHIMA —
A 61-year-old woman and her 95-year-old mother drowned in a lake near Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, on Sunday morning when their car veered off a road and tumbled into the water. The accident occurred around 1 a.m., police said Monday.
The dead women were identified as Kyoko Hakata, a tea ceremony instructor, and her mother, Toshiko.
According to Fukuyama police, the accident occurred on a narrow road running along a lake near the city. The road reportedly has no guard rail or center line. Police believe Hakata lost control of the vehicle when it unexpectedly slid, causing the right front tire to go off the road.

'When it accidentally slid'? How could they possibly know this? Was there a lot of loose gravel on it? Is there a steep slant in the road and it was slick with rain? How do they know that the driver didn't just nod-off at the wheel?
In any case, RIP. Sad that the two should lose their lives like that.

There is absolutely no guard rail, or even fence, on that road. I'm sure this must have happened in the past, and if they don't put up some kind of barrier, it will happen again the future. Very sad. They were planning to spend Mother's Day together.
