Typhoon brings rain, wind to Pacific coast areas

TOKYO —

Typhoon Sinlaku brought heavy rain and strong wind to Japan’s Pacific coastal areas late Friday and early Saturday as it moved eastward on waters in the south of the Japanese archipelago while slightly losing its strength, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. The typhoon was estimated to have dumped more than 120 millimeters per hour of rain near Owase, Mie Prefecture, the agency said.

As of 6 a.m.Saturday, Sinlaku was located around 50 km southwest of Cape Irozaki, packing winds of up to 108 kph, moving 35 kph east-northeast. It was generating winds of up to 90 kph in areas 50 km from the center, according to the agency. The typhoon is expected to reach areas about 220 km east of Choshi, Chiba Prefecture at noon Saturday before moving off to waters south of Japan.

What is Typhoon Sinlaku? Is it the same typhoon that is bringing about the 50 year storm here in Chiba, the airport prefecture? It's time I took refuge in the local community hall where I can get free miso sludge, and is more comfortable than my flimsy uninsulated cramped overpriced hut.
