It's gonna be hard to promote Okinawa as an international destination when typhoons barge thru so often.

Winds of almost 160 kilometers per hour were recorded early Saturday in remote islands west of Naha,

No this is inaccurate, the Amami islands , and Yoron, got hit with the strongest winds, Amamiand Yoron are a part of Kagoshima, and those islands are north-east of Naha. The islands west of Naha, Kerema Islands, got little of anything from this storm. Even Iheya, Izena, and Ie Island are north of Naha.

It's gonna be hard to promote Okinawa as an international destination when typhoons barge thru so often.

If you really think this way you should know that this isnt just something that happened THIS year. It's a really occurrence and for your information Okinawa has over 7 Million visitors (tourists) per year, AND this past year was the first time that nearly 1 million of those tourists came from overseas.

Typhoons are seasonal, and it isnt just Okinawa that gets them.

@Yubaru. Believe it or not, a potential typhoon may actually attract some types of tourists. I have lived in Kitakyushu 6 years and I am still waiting.
