Emperor, empress cut short Nagasaki trip due to typhoon

Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, who began a scheduled three-day visit to Nagasaki Prefecture on Saturday, flew back to Tokyo Sunday due to the approaching typhoon.

The Imperial Household Agency said the imperial couple expressed concern over the typhoon and did not want to be an extra burden on police and prefectural authorities, TBS reported.

On Saturday, the emperor and empress visited the Nagasaki Peace Park and met survivors of the atomic bombing.

On Sunday, they presided at the opening ceremony of a national sports festival in Isahaya. They returned to Tokyo early Sunday evening.

Not being a burden. That's great thinking.

Good, sensible decision. But I wonder how many regular people will be expected to ‘do their best’ and come to work as normal on Tuesday morning?

Instead of watching over their safety, police can now focus on fixing the damage and helping the injured. Right decision from the Emperor.

Do you think 80+year old regular people have a job?

Where have the emperor and empress been evacuated to now? Hawaii would be a good choice...

Why not add Good/Bad buttons for articles, in addition to the existing buttons for individual comments?

Then we could upvote this article in support of the IHA's decision, and downvote the "America sinking like Titanic" article. Or vice versa (or whatever).
