Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, who began a scheduled three-day visit to Nagasaki Prefecture on Saturday, flew back to Tokyo Sunday due to the approaching typhoon.
The Imperial Household Agency said the imperial couple expressed concern over the typhoon and did not want to be an extra burden on police and prefectural authorities, TBS reported.
On Saturday, the emperor and empress visited the Nagasaki Peace Park and met survivors of the atomic bombing.
On Sunday, they presided at the opening ceremony of a national sports festival in Isahaya. They returned to Tokyo early Sunday evening.

Good, sensible decision. But I wonder how many regular people will be expected to ‘do their best’ and come to work as normal on Tuesday morning?
