Yep! Gonna be a wet and wild Sunday in Tokyo folks. It's just starting now and will continue most of the day tomorrow. It's really gonna mess with the plans of the millions on mass-exodus from Tokyo.

Getting fairly windy here in Kochi right now after a rather quiet afternoon. Been raining nearly constantly as well, but nothing too bad so far. Hope it will "blow over" fairly quietly.... Spectacular waves at Katsurahama beach though, must be said.

Yea. It has been raining on and off all day here in Shinjuku. I feel bad for those in the south, though. They're really getting it this year.

agreed.

@zichi, the storm (from what I see on a weather web site) is going to make a direct landfall in central Shikoku and head north-northeast across western Honshu starting at around Okayama. It's going to be really stormy between Fukuyama and Himeji.

I was JUST telling a few friends last week when talking about typhoons that I did believe this one would hit the area because it was going to be the holiday, and in all my time in Osaka the only typhoons ever to hit the area have been on Sundays or holidays (with one exception when a warning was issued on a Thursday, and it ended up being sunny with little wind -- guess we get both Sunday and holiday this time.

But what can you do? At the moment it's quite calm here, but stay safe people. I don't think it will get that far in most areas, but prepare a small bag in case you're in one of the areas that need to evacuate -- especially if near a swelling river and/or places with the potential for landslides.

A big blow in Kochi from about or 11, was woken by it at 3 with wind outside at 40 m/sec at least, and then at about 5:30 the wind dropped completely, like we were in the eye or something. UST a bit of rain. Just now all the water from the hills is washing down Kagami River, which right now is right up to the gunwales, and may go over the banks this time, unlike last Sunday when it only reached the level of the road. We're on level 2 down the hill below the river (!!!), so this might be the last report from in Shikoku ...

Any other updates from Shikoku?

Typhoons are grown up cyclones-fortunately for Asia most are stillborn.

This "typhoon" has been the biggest hype job ever.A bit of rain and some wind and that's it.

exactly and that's the reason many people do not take weather report seriously also lose faith in climate change (global warming).

More "this is nothing" comments...maybe not where YOU are, but thousands have been evacuated, rivers are overflowing...all I can say is, be glad it isn't you!

Nothing in Fukuoka, just dark clouds and a bit windy.

Nagahama got very windy, house shook a lot... power went out for a number of hours and substantial downpour until about 5 / 6am. Now its passed and very quiet.. some broken pots and plants, few leaks, other than that its fine. Cant speak for rest of Kochi though... glad it made landfall as a tropical storm, and not a typhoon or supertyphoon.

What could make the storm worse in Shikoku is that north of Kochi is a lot of mountains--and it appears the Kagami and Kobuku Rivers are overflowing through town according to one earlier report here....

Heavy rainfall and strong winds in western Tokyo now. Warnings over the PA system went also out.

Craca & some14 - expert weather forcasters now - heh, heh!

In Kagawa it's been a heavy night. Torrential rain (some places 1,000mm), damaging winds and the seasonal high tide is expected to be 1~2 m over king tide levels. Tha'ts meant to be right now - 10:30am - but I'm not going down to look.

Just spent an hour securing blown off gutters and nami -ita on the car port. Thought it might all go. We've only had 200mm+ rain here so not so bad. In-laws house lost some tiles and 1 room soaked.

The latest forecast is for a final blast the next hour as the winds swing NW and bring heavy rain again. This afternoon will be 30c and calm.

Can't pour my first Sunday drink til then - just to be on the safe side.
