Maselko said that once he obtains the data, he will be able to make a comparison that should allow him to say whether there is more or less debris than in 2008.

Unless they had multiple instances of docks washing ashore and moving van containers containing motorcycles washing ashore back in 2008, I'm going to go way out on a limb and say there is more debris now than in 2008.

I just saw video today on ABC Nightly news and an entire pier made of concrete made it from Tohoku, Japan all the way to a beach out in Oregon, USA.

The pier that washed up on the Oregon coast has been a huge tourist draw, which has been great for the depressed coast economy.

Today our state (Oregon) announced a hot line for us to report any unusual findings on the shore. Also the state will be providing dumpsters for people to use fori any cleanup.

The funny thing is we/they are so worried about InvasiveSpecies that may hitch a ride on anything that makes it across the pacific.

The debris is amazing indeed, but I just shutter at the thought of the people who were washed out in that vast ocean and the pain everyone has gone through!
