Can't restrict alcohol with JULY 4th RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER,that would be unamerican!!

a senior officer said personnel had shown they understand how alcohol-fueled bad behaviour can damage relations with the Japanese community.

Senior officer: Do you understand? Personnel: Yes, sir! Senior officer: Lesson clearly learned. Problem solved! Let's go to the bar to celebrate.

Let them have alcohol but restrict them to the base or something for a while. They're military so it's fine to collectively punish

after a senior officer said personnel had shown they understand how alcohol-fueled bad behaviour can damage relations with the Japanese community.

And just exactly how did that senior officer come to that conclusion? Enquiring minds want to know.

"after a senior officer said personnel had shown they understand how alcohol-fueled bad behaviour "

Most sober people understand the negative consequences of being drunk. Most sober people also understand that murder and rape are negative behaviors. It is when people are drunk, they forget right from wrong. Maybe the correct correlation is the fact that no one was drinking, no one was drunk, hence no one was raped or killed.

"Sailors will be allowed to drink alcohol on U.S. bases there and in private residences outside, but not in off-base bars."

Didn't help last time, she had been drinking in a private residence, nothing has changed.

Simply put to much alcohol is bad for your health and the negative effects of constant alcohol abuse are very obvious. Alcohol changes the way your mind and and your body works. It alters a person's perception, emotions, movement, vision and hearing. It slows down your reactions and confuses your thinking. It makes it harder to control your muscles, mind and mouth. Overuse of this can make you lose your coordination and slur your speech. Alcohol is addictive and can lead to various health problems. It can damage your stomach developing ulcers that can lead to internal bleeding by developing Cirrhosis disabling your liver functions, kidneys and many other organs. Also it can also cause many types of cancer. In the end deciding to drink is always a personal choice.

Drinking in bars in Japan is a ripoff. Buy a good case of Kirkland ale and pale ale from costco and kick back at home.

After 11 days, "US Powers That Be", are able to totally reverse life long habits, drives, and behaviors of 18,600 individuals. JUST IMAGINE THE MIND CONTROL NOW POSSIBLE. Can a readjustment of the terrorist mindset now be possible or would that be bad for business?

Perhaps not for the injured, and certainly not for the dead.

Ms. Shimabukuro, RIP.

And in other news, all 4th of July Independence Day celebrations have been cancelled for all U.S. military installations throughout Japan. No open base events, no fireworks displays, no nothing. Just great.

Let the men drink, if the 99% are doing it right let them continue to do it... after all they 99% of Okinawans aren't held accountable for the faults of their own. Who's homeland it is doesn't matter, this is one community on this island regardless of nationality.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

The locals don't want the US there.

What could be simpler than that? It's about time the Japanese gov make a move for the Okinawans, and makes it clear for the US that this ain't a place for their military bases. When the people speak, listen to it please.

You must be joking...

.Kind of like posting on JT, the negative effects on one's mind changes how one thinks.

Cheers and Kampai then! Not everyone need always be punished for one mans bad deed. And they have been punished.

They need to restrict alcohol consumption to the military base.

In addition to criminal behvavior, there have been too many instances of US military personnel behaving like uncivilized animals after consuming alcohol.

I agree with the effects of alcohol and many people on here constantly complain about second hand smoke or fast food yet alcoholism is no biggie.

Just copying the host country's salaryman, thank them for leading the way.

They need to restrict alcohol consumption to the military base.

No the ubiquitous "they" do not, "They" should be educating people better, but compared to 3 or 4 decades ago things are relatively quiet and the military for the most part HAVE been pretty good neighbors.

They can thank their hosts for leading the way.

What a farce. It was totally ignorant to impose this meaningless order for dubious and fraudulent public relations purposes only to be made infinitely worse by stopping it 11 days later boastfully lying about it's success.

The US military colonization and subjugation of Okinawa should have ended long ago. Their continued presence serves no legitimate strategic or tactical purpose that couldn't be handled by other methods that do not involve taking up vast percentages of area and personnel in a very small island. Their overburdening presence actually incentivized Okinawa being a target rather than a deterrent as some have commented.

The DT's were no doubt showing.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

That was quick.

The US should pull the military out of Okinawa. The US military is no longer needed for the defense of Japan.
