If you read carefully, its a (non correctly certified, etc). USA is always trying to get outside companies in trouble. In the end the certifications are given to local companies and if MHI wants one itll pay premium.

Mitsubishi is clearly to blame here, whether you like it or not. Rather than saying the US always likes to get other companies in trouble how about you take a look at your own comments -- always blaming others for Japanese failure. The US here, unlike companies in Japan, is really just being careful. Wouldn't it be nice if companies like TEPCO did the same?

Japan is selling a lot of faulty equipment for the almighty profit. Very little concern for human lives. Especially if they are non-Japanese.

Interting (interesting) that this comes shortly on the heels of complaints by foreign companies about the J-Government not using foreign contractors for nuke remediation work in Japan.

A reader might think that... until a careful reader notices that the article says the "notice of non-conformance" was filed on November 30th.

If the "mock-up" isn't using the same construction as the actual reactor, using the "mock-up" to explore fixes is kind of pointless. It would be like trying to figure out how to fix a PC by practicing the repairs on a Mac.

If the test equipment used in the test is not properly calibrated, then the test data is meaningless. Actually the NRC is giving them some facesaving in allowing them to justify the lapses. Otherwise, they have to redo all the experimental work. BTW this is a company based out of Virgina in the States so you can hold off all your bashing comments.

I live in the effected area and pay my utilities bill to SDG&E.

We take nuclear safety VERY seriously in Caliafornia, there'll be no Fukishima here.

People in San Diego are deeply disappointed by these failures and their ongoing expense and inconvenience.

The phrase "Made in Japan" has taken on a patina that it hasn't had since the 1950s-1960s.

Umm... Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is based out of Virginia? I LIVE in Virginia and I don't think so. The plant the U.S. NRC inspectors were at is in Kobe, Japan. According to wiki, the headquarters for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is listed as Minato, Tokyo, Japan.

The nuclear business of MHI operates facilities in Kobe, Yokohama, Kanagawa,Takasago, Hyogo. It also operates a nuclear fuel manufacturing plant in Tōkai, Ibaraki which processes 440 Metric tons of Uranium per year.

Virginia is not mentioned at all. ;-)

Yeah, but it wasn't the reactors designed by GE that caused the disaster to happen. It was the total disregard by Japanese authorities that a tsunami which breached the breakwaters would flood-out the emergency power generators - halting cooling of the GE reactors. GE certifies that the reactors are safe as long as adequate cooling is provided by the installation's design. Japan's design of the building and installation of American technology was flawed.

The reactors used at Fukushima Daiichi were all designed by General Electric, but only reactors 1, 2, and 6 were actually BUILT by General Electric. Reactors 3 and 5 were built by Toshiba and Reactor 4 was built by Hitachi. All construction was conducted by Kajima, based out of Moto-Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo, Japan.
