Billions of aid has been given to africa, Nothing changed. Bono should stop milking this dumb image of him and use his own money.

Tribal grudges, shamanistic curses, deep age old hatreds are sadly a part of Africa. Modern day Sowheto is overrun with illegal immigrants from other African nations and it's jut a basket case of a country. They're killed on the spot in many cases...Yeah I know, I wish I hadn't said that either, but it is real basket case.

Bono. Stand up guy. Doctor, and serious intellectual. If you look closely at the photo you can see the stigmata upon his person.

it s a joke right ? why those people can't take care themselves about their developpement? it s too to always wait than other country come to help them. fukada is stupid before to help african people or chinese or i don't know which other country maybe must he take care about people who live in his own country. and take a solution to change something. After i don't think than someone can help african country. all of those country president just take monney and don't care about population, more you give monney more african government recive monney but the popultion live will never change, the second reason than those people can't build a solid economic system. after the 2nd war the japanese economy was rebuilded, european too, and japan or germany didn't received help form someone. vietnam too, korea too, the lone people who can't build something, just wait some loan, and waiting some help because 250 years ago some european or american guys get take slaves are african people, and after dont said me than if those country are poor is because some country colonised it. its just no sense. if bono like so african country why didnt give them is own fortune?

Akuma1985- Your observation about African leaders and their lack of conern for the welfare of their own people is spot on. However, you clearly lack knowledge in respect to aid and help. Germany, Japan and many other European countries received massive aid from the US after the war. They also received special treatment in terms of trade and technology transfer. It became a priority for the US to see these war ravaged countries developed as it would help to boost its own economic growth even further.

In addition, the effects of colonialism on Africa's underdevelopment is well documented and any argument to the contrary could not be sustained.

The unfair exploitation of Africa's resources, lack of technology transfer and a failure on the part of Africans to develop democratic principles are just some of the prevailing problems that continues to undermine Africa's illusive quest for self reliance.

Africa is simply requiring a different approach from the past, and the Chinese in some respect are providing the opportunity to make this a reality. Trade and the exploitation of African resources is now being linked to local infrastructure development. It is essentially a new model that is going to require some patience and more understanding on the part of concerned people like you and others.

I don't take seriously anything coming out of the mouth of a sanctimonious hypocrite who thinks nothing of dropping 25 million dollars on a New York apartment (one of several homes Bono owns), yet sees fit to continually be on the national stage asking nations to help Africa and forgive debt.

Everton not to sound racist but most asian and european countries borrowed money to rebuild their economies after world war 2 and they did, millions had died, but after fifty years of european rule why hasn't africa been able to build itself even with the money thrown at it back the and today?

Synth- Most of the AID that went to the destroyed countries after the WW2 came in the form of grants that had no strings attached. The IMF was not in operation then to impose the harsh austerity measures that we have witness with the African economies. In fact, the aid that was made available to England, Germany and even Japan was so massive it would have been virtually impossible to repay.

The enormous borrowing by these former war affected economies occurred in the sixties, when they were already well set on a path of reconstruction, already made possible by the massive aid that they had already received with no strings attached.

Africa for the most part have been treated differently in every sense. By the time independence started to break out in Africa most of these European economies were already on their way to development. Moreover, at a time when Africa should have been benefiting from it resources Europeans simply sent all the profits back home, neglected local infrastructure investment, and in their exit installed leaders that they felt would be beholding to their continued interest. European exploitation of Africa did not end with their exit, in fact it intensified.

This in every way forestalled Africa's development and has essentially given us some of the problems that we see there today.

which compensation you said about war damaged penalty than japan & germany paid.

you are right the colonialism did african people stupid.

but HK, vietnam, laos and a lot of country was colonialisd but only african country wait some help. and i really think than before help other coutries people the government must help their own country.

for exemple take a country as liberia which had a good economy in 80's what did they do? war. how do you want help them.

the bono wish is just than rich countries forget the african country dept. it's stupid every country have it how do we do. did we forget every countries dept ?

and if everybody did same, for simple exemple you buy an house or a car by credit and when you must reimburse it just go to the bank and say oh i m poor i don't have monney please forget it. no way.

look a country like japan we have a lot of homeless who will give them some money ???? nobody. so why must we help african people?

if bono want help those guys if can give all his fortune he have more monney than me or you it s easy to urge a country to help african developpment. the day where bono give all his fortune to an african country maybe will i change my mind. for now it's not the case.

ODA is a loan that makes loan sharking look honorable. Japan is amazingly dumb not to realize that everytime it mentions this dirty abbreviation African's say that's even greater proof of why China is our best option.
