Surprise surprise....

Why does this not suprise me at all?! I was told, that all of the capable people who worked at Tepco before already left the company and only the douchebags still working there.

How big is the hole? How did it get there? How serious is it?

I see several holes in this story!

My partners at Sandwich Street in NY says otherwise...

According to the manufacturer of the silt fence, the fence is not made for the purpose of preventing diffusion of contaminated water and that the effectiveness cannot be determined. So don't expect too much from the water curtain.

Maybe some radioactive rat made it

Underwater anti-radiation barrier at Fukushima has hole: TEPCO

When is it going to be enough??? When are TEPCO going to be removed from this situation?? They are obviously not up to dealing with it, and are just making things worse.

I'll play the Devil's advocate for once. Well, bad news after news but remember it is not like a nuclear accident of that proportion happened everyday. It's kind of trial and error. Where errors may be grave...

...but... but... it's under control right?

It's a good thing they just allowed some fishing to resume in some areas off the coast near the plant. One step forward, two steps back.

This barrier is around undamaged reactors and there's no contaminated water being stored there. This barrier probably isn't very necessary in the first place. But a hole was found, TEPCO reported it, and presumably it'll be fixed.

There's a lot of serious issues going with TEPCO and the plant. This isn't one of them.

Was the hole made by Gojira?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Oh, ffs... How many massive blunders do they have to allow before someone does something!

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Get the Oompah-loompahs to fix it!

TEPCO aka FIASCO

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Probie: I literally do not think it will be "enough" until Tokyo needs to be evacuated. THEN the government might say, "Maybe we should have done more," etc. I mean for Pete's sake TEPCO wants to keep reactors 5 and 6 DESPITE the PM demanding they be scrapped!

But...TEPCO has a plan. Put fingers in ears and say ..la la la

I know people like to bring up the statement, "we have it under control," whenever a story like this comes up. But to be fair, when we have wild fires we use the same statement. It doesn't mean that the fire is completely extinguished. The fire can still be burning and killing wildlife; albeit at a slower rate.

Kubotasan: "The fire can still be burning and killing wildlife; albeit at a slower rate."

And then the fire is eventually extinguished. Unlike in you comparison, the phrase has been abused to many times when clearly things are NOT under control and new problems are revealed daily, it doesn't quite equal the same thing.

I think that's a good comparison, Kubotasan.

Problems are revealed daily, but that's going to continue until the site is decommissioned and fully decontaminated. I think people need to take a step back and take a wider view, instead of getting upset every day about every setback (especially today's here, which is trivial). Compare the situation now to what it was in the hours, days, and weeks following the tsunami, when things were most definitely out of control. Relatively speaking, it's under control now. But far from over.

And... once upon a time...

@Airion... that's a scarily sensible comment on a thread like this.

Well What is new about Temuco, <<<>>>Starting with Administration then through to the Nuclear Energy.

Good comment from Airion but it is not appreciate here. Because a small problem like this leads to bigger ones. I believe TEPCO should abandon this project because no one knows how to take care of it. They should be in damage control mode, not clean up. They should stop the radiation from leaking into the ocean and water table and seal it up, and do the best job they can to earthquake proof the thing. Leave it until the technology is developed to deal with it. But that would cost a lot of money that the shareholders want. So it will not be done.

One more reason to abolish nuclear power.
