Could it be the local merchants want a chance to make morer money before they shutter their thriving shops..?????????????????

8,000 marines off to Guam? Their goes the neighborhood! No Guam vacation for me this year!

Guam is already dodgy at night on that main strip..but really nice in the day.

Could be, fatloser. Hey, I have a great idea: lets close all the US Bases, send all the US Forces-Japan home, and see how soon the Red Chinese will be in here!

I wonder if the local government in Okinawa will agree to the delay? If their former governor were still in office, he'd say "no".

Remove the US troops from Japan and let them build their own military...and deal with all the wonderful consequences.

Japanese military bases, Japanese helicopter noise, Japanese military crime, Article 9, higher taxes, more complicated foreign policies, etc.........

elbudamexicano: "8,000 marines off to Guam? Their ( There ) goes the neighborhood! No Guam vacation for me this year!"

As if you've ever even seen U.S. Marines during your Guam vacations. I've been there several times ( after my military service ) and saw only local people and Japanese tourists every time.

And, by the way, the main reason you've been able to enjoy your Guam vacations are the U.S. Marines stationed there. You owe them an apology.

If I understand correctly, the amount of money, 6 Billion Yen is less than 5 percent of the money that was wasted by by the Japanese Government last year.

Really? but would Japan still have to continue procrastinating to USA?

  • Speed at 01:05 AM JST - 9th November

It's going to take six to seven years to move 8,000 marines to Guam?! You could do it in one week!

  • RakishGadfly at 02:36 AM JST - 9th November

send all the US Forces-Japan home, and see how soon the Red Chinese will be in here!

This kind of statement is always good for a chuckle - thanks.

I say "quit stalling", why does it take so much time to move 8,000 marines or so much money? The Marines are "milking" this for a it is worth! The price is more than $1,000,000 for each marine. What are they spending the money on?

  • fatloser at 06:49 AM JST - 9th November

A lot of that money will probably go to the merchants in Okinawa to keep them from being reduced to abject poverty.

Sure it could be. But that we don't have the money right now is definite. Besides I can't imagine matters of this sort being decided on the basis of what local shops and merchants have to say one way or the other.

  • YuriOtani at 09:39 AM JST - 9th November

Think we will be happy to see the last of the Marines, I have never seen such objectionable people,, they walk though Okinawa like they own it. Their MP,s think they can enforce US law in Japan, again what is taking them so long? They are stalling!
