And the one on Misawa AB has so many Japanese players on it each and every day you'd think it was a Japanese course!

Next we'll be hearing about how many tennis courts, Burger Kings and ping pong tables the U.S. military has in Japan.

How many tennis courts? I'd love to find out, though I'm deuced if I know how to.

It is inexcusable to have more than the Kadena Golf course on Okinawa. The Island is too small.

No, not really. There are 2 18 hole courses. Once the US gives back Awase Golf Course (the next cement hell Jusco is going there, so much for having green space), a new course will be opened on land that is not used and abuts the expressway. Chibana is a tiny 9 hole executive course, and I think there is one at the small recreation area (another small 9 hole executive course).

Yeah, really a big deal, considering I have to wait behind a lot of Japanese to get on the course. And I can't get on the local courses (cost and memberships are not exactly given to gaijin).

Big Deal, the question is whether you would rather have our forces join country clubs to play golf? The last time I played a round at Chi San it was $600 for our foursome. Must be cheaper for the military to maintain their own courses. Why is this a news story?

And McDonald's have 1 million burgers in Japan. Big Deal. Hope those who use them enjoy them.

Lets confine this subject to Okinawa. After WWII ended the entire island was laid waste. There was no homes, no roads, no nothing and it was up to the Okinawas and the USa to join hands and rebuild the entire economy - we had to make jobs for the people and wbegan by building gardens and rice paddies (After all, we had to eat.) We built Awase Golf Course on utter wasteland and this ofdfred emplyment to over a hundred Ryukyuans. Last time I looked there is 23 gteat golf courses on Okinawa and they all belong to the Ryukyuans. We brought out Sam Sneed who was accepted by the Ryukyuans and in no time all the department stores were selling golf equipment and today I only know of two Military courses on Okinawa, but they also are run by Ryukyuan Personnel and some of the greatest Ryukyuan golf course superintendents now run run this part of the economy We also built bowling alleys, fast food entities such as McDonalds and A&W and this was all headed up by Shannon B.B. McCune who was reponsible for rebuilding the entire economy which today is thriving . Frankly speaking, the Ryukyuans have done a grest job of rebuilding and all we had to do with it was to help them get started.

Sicilian - Is Jusco really going to convert the Awase golf course into a damn shopping center? And is your uncle really the half white half black guy on that Star Trek episode?

    No people,

When you own land in a country you occupy, local people get upset. Thats why Dubai could'nt buy NY ports. You get it?

When I saw that there was a golf course on Okinawa, was about the time that I got offended by the bases here. America taking land for training and defense is one thing, but building golf courses is a new level of 'in your face' (the Kadena one is viewable from the street). The bases have Pizza Huts and Subways, but do they need golf courses? Of course not. They should settle for their private beaches, and allow land for Okinawan development.

    Sarge:

Yes, once Awase is given back, The biggest JUSCO on Okinawa is planned there. And yes, Frank Gorshin (RIP) is my uncle. He was married to my Mothers sister.

def: Concerning the golf courses, I don't know how to stress to you that more Okinawans use ti than Americans. Okinawans work there, so the AMericans are really second fiddle on "their own course". And there are only 4 small private beaches on Okinawa that the military controls that are of any consequence. And I don't like them. Too many "quick, push it back in before it dies" types are there.

Hey, America needs private beaches in foreign lands... Seriously, Okinawa is pretty much an American playground. If they focused on business instead of pleasure, there'd be few complaints.

As for that golf course on Kadena, I've never seen a Japanese person playing, so I'll have to take your word on it.

This news piece is devised purely to get the pro-US military and anti-US military at each others throats.

You are correct, sir! This story has little to no news value, but it does show the nature of JapanToday.com in terms of the type of reader/poster they are seeking. The more fights the better.
