uniformed service personnel stationed in Okinawa" Does this mean they would be wearing uniforms while drinking? If yes, then that's a good thing, isn't it? At least they would be able to ID the service a wrong doer is in.

Yea, good thing, because the number of alcohol incidents by locals was starting to climb at an alarming rate.

skipthesong - When they say "uniformed service personnel" they mean those who are actually in the services. US military personel are not allowed to wear uniforms off-base while on leave or liberty, even during normal lunch hours. They can be in uniform going base to base or to and from their off-base housing. Never other unless for official duty purposes.

Uniformed services personnel is just another way of saving "military member".

You all need to remember this is a lifting of OFF base drinking prohibitions. They are not suffering from a "long dry spell", because they have been able to drink ON base.

okapake: thanks for the clarification. I guess it won't be like those old movies with guys getting drunk in uniforms then.
