It's already 10am and still no posts rushing to the defence of the American military? A fresh shipment of Budweiser must have come in yesterday or something...

There's nothing to defend here. The locals aren't complaining about the US military presence or that they conduct live fire training. They're only complaining that they can't watch.

The only complaints being made are by the locals who profit from the event! Their cash cow has wandered away!

Why does the Japanese care about it, they are operating on US soil, I don't think Japan realize that and think they are operating in Japan.

I do not remember any cash cows or anyone protesting when we got there. Most people could care less. Where we were shooting at was nothing but empty arid "desert like" land. Those shoots sucked and we stayed on base the whole time. I think we may of got 1 day of liberty and all they set up was a beer tent. Oh, and there was no budweiser, just Asahi Dry.

Actually gogogo, we were shooting on their base. It is a joint excercise with the JSDF. Nothing great, but I got to trade my MRE's for some Japanese ones. Nothing great there either. Yes, military highlights!

See, it oughta be done proper like, with concessionaires vending the three yakis: takoyaki, taiyaki, yakisoba; Artillery Hostesses in spiffy uniforms proffering hot beverages; and of course Morning Musume or Akiba 48 singing away. Who doesn't like a nice fireworks show? What a missed opportunity.

I thought all the 1850's treaties were already revoked? The US is just 'renting' (although they might not have to pay anything, it's the best likeness I could think of. It's not like an embassy) space for their bases.

Oh, and I don't get why military people bother trading MRE's when on base. Even the best ones are pretty bland, if you're lucky.

    Xeno23- I wish. Believe me I wish.

adm_kenshin- US service members are not issued Japanese MRE's, so it is nice to trade. Just like trading uniforms, try and see what the other guy has. Did not matter about taste, more like camaraderie. Also, we were restricted from entering their BX. Not much else you could do in the form of trade.
