Welcome USS george Washington. Being a former Navyman aboard the USS Nimitz, We did not have a radioactive incident in the two years I was aboard. The fie aboard the Washington has nothing to do with the operation of the reactor. There are several levels of containment.

He doesnt need to understand Japans horrid record for nuclear power plants, he spent a few days here once so he already knows, just like he knows the US navy hasnt had a major nuclear problem ever, unlike Japanese power plants..

What is " is the reason of the anti nuclear warship in Japan" an anti nuclear warship... where can I buy one??? does it suck the nuclear right out of the other ship and/or missle?? That was sarcasm in case you couldnt tell..

Guys, guys.. calm down... Phil can only comment on things he knows about. Like Nuclear Safety, rockets being shot at Yokosuka NB, etc... It might have been years since he vacationed here, but at least give him credit for learning everything he needs to know during that 10 day stretch!

Oh wait... never mind. My bad. USN Nuclear record is better than anybody elses. He must be mistaken.

The US never used a nuclear bomb in war they have tested them but have never used them, Ohh he meant the A-bomb....

I think the best assurance the USN can give, is to guarantee that if the ship is ever hit in action and leaking radiation to power back, it does not dock at Yokosuka until repaired completely. Obviously, if the ship is hit, rational thought is disgarded

This scenario of the ship being hit is VERY real, for I had to go thru several permutations that could occur in March 1996 in the Taiwan Strait Crisis. Better than 50-50 that the PRC would not stand down. That led me to conclude a hit on the Kitty Hawk. I intervened due to the odds and it would be a terrible mistake.

One can relive that dramatic time by watching the movie, "Tomorrow Never Dies". I watch it every year.

These anti-nuke people need to get a grasp of the difference between nuclear power generation and nuclear weapons. I thought they were against the latter, which as idealistic as it may be, I can understand. If not they need to start demonstrating againt all those nuclear reactors in operation in Japan today, and be prepared to for hell from all the other Japanese who are struggling with the high cost of oil.

I think they will have a problem with the crew way before a reactor issue.
