NAGASAKI —
The U.S. nuclear-powered submarine La Jolla made a port call Friday at the U.S. naval base in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, making it the second visit there after revelation earlier this month of a radiation leak at the port by another U.S. submarine. A local civic group held a protest rally timed to coincide with the vessel’s entry to port. Participants said they cannot tolerate repeated port calls when the cause of the leak is yet to be determined. The 6,080-ton La Jolla with 138 crew members entered the port at around 2:15 p.m. The purpose of the port call is believed to be to let the crew rest and replenish supplies.
The La Jolla last visited Sasebo on Aug. 4, two days after the revelation that the submarine Houston leaked water with trace amounts of radioactivity when it made a visit in March. Nagasaki Prefecture and the city of Sasebo have opposed the Houston’s entry to the port, and have pressed the Japanese government to look into the cause of the leak and take steps to prevent similar incidents. The latest port call by the La Jolla, a Los Angeles-class fast attack sub, represents the ninth visit to Sasebo by a U.S. nuclear-powered submarine this year

U.S. nuclear submarine makes another port call after radiation leak.
Great headline. Way to make it sound like the subject submarine was the same one that leaked radiation. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to seeing this same non-story, with different names and dates of course, covered here at JT every time an American submarine makes a port call in Japan.
The U.S. nuclear-powerd submarine ABCD made a port call Friday at the U.S. naval base in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, making it the XX visit there after revelation X years ago of a radiation leak at the port by another U.S. submarine...yada yada...

Misleading headline designed to create a story out of nothing. Things are heating up again with Ivan. Maybe we can stop making announcements on our movements?
