Under the new meely-mouthed, liberal administration in Washington from hencefore our navy ships will no longer be called "warships" but designated as "peace & freindship boats."

tatanka, It's a warship to enemies. Friendly ship to friends. Last I checked Japan and US are friends.
The rest of the world are jsut beginning to like you Americans a bit better. Why don't you behave?

Hmm, it's funny they don't mention anything about people of Nagasaki being really upset about arrival of that ship. Other news state this quite well (e.g. http://www.france24.com/en/20090205-protests-us-warship-docks-nagasaki).

If electing someone makes the world like us, I'd rather be disliked.

O.K., technically, the Blue Ridge is a "warship," but I think anyone whose ever been in the Navy in 7th fleet will get a kick out hearing her referred to as such.
Have a good time in Nagasaki ladies and gents. Try the champon!

Looks like the ship has just enough weapons for air self defense but not against the smallest warship. Armament: 2× Phalanx CIWS guns 2× 25 mm Bushmaster cannons 4× .50 cal. Machine guns Mark 36 SRBOC chaff rockets. It is really a upgraded freighter. Not much of a threat at all.

Then it is not in the defensive interest of Japan would it? Perhaps the protestors were disappointed at the impractical use of LCC command ships for the purposes of carrier fleet engagements. The admiral belongs in the CIC of the carrier, not some frigate that lost its purpose since Incheon.
