Universal Studios Japan is planning to build new amusement parks in Kyushu and Okinawa. According to USJ, the company started considering this plan a few years ago.

USJ officials said they are in the final stage of mapping out a business plan with its partners, TBS reported.

No date or possible locations have been mentioned yet.

USJ said it is also considering to expand overseas in such cities as Taipei, Jakarta and Mumbai.

Please do! Okinawa is sooooooooooo boring. I'm so glad I left the island. Aside from limited natural parks like Bios Hill and the Churaumi aquariu,. there aren't mush to see in Okinawa. Chatan American village and exotic beaches are nice too but overall, it's very boring.

Universal Studios; an American entity being urged by the American Government to try to persuade Okinawa on their new military base with its ' magic ' and fantasy. More Americans and more American apertures mean more trouble for the people of Okinawa. The aim is to divert attention away from the protests against the new American base. Hopefully, the Okinawans will not be swayed by this Shinzo Abe attempt. The worst person is one who sells out his country in pursuit of his personal goals and self-interest and paying for it with the lives of the ordinary citizens of the country..

Kyushu? Really? Home of House Ten Boshe and Seagaiya? Oh don't forget Space World in Kita Kyushu.

Granted, all three had problems. HTB & Sea were in difficult to reach locations that are relatively expensive to travel to. SW & HTB are just boring ("Daddy, can we go to the place w/ the funny wooden shoes again, pleeeeeaaaasssseee?")

Seagaiya mat have been a success if it were somewhere else. But apart from the fact that Miyazaki has high landing fees (I flew there from Tokyo about 12 years ago. It was 3,000¥ cheaper than flying to Guam), it also happens to be about 400 yards from some of the best surfing in Japan.

If they really want to succeed, I think that Fukuoka would be the logical choice. Good transit links both w/in Kyushu and with Honshu. And it has to be something that won't be a one-time experience (e.g. wooden shoes/tulips).

It's a good idea if they are planning to target the foreign tourist market. Kyushu and Okinawa are far more accessible to China and Korea than other parts of Japan. The locals there are generally more amenable to the idea ... and they could certainly use the work.

Not sure abou Okinawa, but Kyushu is litered with the remnants of ill-advised amusement parks. The idea of them bulldozing some pretty mountainside to build another eyesore that will probably go bankrupt a few years down the road doesn`t make me feel too good.

Bulldoze all of it, dump it in the sea to start the process to build a new island. Then move the USA military to the island and let the developers turn Okinawa into the casino/resort area resembling Las Vegas/Hawaii.

Okinawa? Univ Studio in USA must have some info that some huge entertainment industry corp has plan to expand to Okinawa? Otherwise, it will not multi billion dollars to expand to Okinawa.

Nice plans, and they should help preserve the countries' ecosystems. :)

I;d bet archeologists are consulted (custom of developers) as Okinawa has a long history. Historical, cultural value along with archeological values. Developers do not bulldoze unless researchers could not find any sign of existence of values of ancient culture.

Do you mean USJ or Universal Studios in those countries? It wouldn't be called USJ if they were in those countries.

@DudeDeuce: You are right. USA corporations do not operate like Japan Inc in USA. Head company Universal Studio press release, USJ did. US in USA finances these projects.
