MIYAZAKI —
A van ran into a restaurant operated by McDonald’s Co (Japan) Ltd on Tuesday at a supermarket in Miyazaki City, slightly injuring six children and three adults inside the building, police said. The nine customers—six children aged from 1 to 11 and three adults aged from 28 to 53—were taken to hospitals for treatment of mild injuries such as bruises and scratches, police said.
Police said the van, driven by Hideki Nomura, 64, hit the McDonald’s after Nomura drove the vehicle forward in a parking space, pressing the accelerator instead of the brake. The van crashed through a glass window of the outlet and came to a stop.

After those porn producers filmed a scene at McDs, it seems the action movie industry has caught on to the idea too.
I bet the customers were really McShaken.

Worth asking, but there could be other explanations. A neighbour of mine had this happen to him once, flooring the accelerator pedal rather than the break and rear-ending a car on the motorway. The accident was what finally prompted a more thorough investigation of him by doctors: they found a brain tumour.
Hope that the kids and parents injured are ok.
I am strenuously trying to resist making jokes about 'Drive Thru' restaurants.......

Someone needs to explain to Nomura how drive-thru actually works. I don't think he gets the concept.

Taka: We have a "Beavis" posting now. He should be able to explain it to Nomura-san.
It
s strange that this country talks so much about expanding waistlines and high cholesterol of late, but McDonalds is doing its darndest to get people to buy as many MegaMuffins, Macs, and TeriyakiMacs as possible. You
d think the health concerns and the higher prices would be keeping people away from McDonalds. Maybe the "Ebi-chan effect" is having its intended purpose.brandonklex at 01:57 PM JST - 7th May

Nobody killed - and if he prevented them from eating their hamburgers, this incident might actually have been beneficial

"pressing the accelerator instead of the brake"
Yeah, that's an easy mistake to make - they're right next to each other! You would think vehicle makers would put them a little farther apart or sumpthin'...
capone at 06:49 PM JST - 7th May
except that the accelerator is shaped vertically and the brake horizontally...otherwise, yeah, it's hard to tell them apart
