who wants to go to a car show with lame "Eco-cars" that need to be plugged in? People go to see the exotic. No wonder attendance is down.

Was there the other day, it was a terrible event. Only the big japanese brands of which only Honda did a decent show. The bike section was mildly good in fact better than the cars. boring Eco-cars are just not worth seeing.

Well, not to be surprised:
Looking at the exhibitor list
http://www.tokyo-motorshow.com/en/booth/exhibitor.html
no German car maker (VW, BMW, Benz, Audi, Porsche)
no French car maker (Peugeot, Citroen, Renault)
no Italian car maker (Fiat, Ferrari)
no US car maker (Ford, Chrysler ...)
There is only Alpina from Germany and Lotus from Great Britain, so this Motorshow clearly shows a distorted view of the car market.

Motorshows are the biggest annual PR expense for car companies. QED as to why only two international brands are here.

People only go to see the race queens anyhow.

electric2004, that's kind of surprising as I would have expected Peugeot, Renault, BMW, Mercedes, and VW to participate as they sell a fairly large number of cars here. Everyone else from Saab to Jeep only moves a handful of units here. In tough times Tokyo is sooner to be cut than North America or Europe for foreign companies. Guess I don't need to go since Japan hasn't designed a decent looking car since the last RX-7.

I don´t see this as bad news. People don´t think that having a car is essential anymore. Plus, we´re talking about Japan. A tiny country with a good public transport system and expensive tax for car owners. However Japanese industry is on the right path with electric cars. It will be the car of the future, which has arrived earlier than expected. Even in countries where one really needs a car, as US or Australia, people are more and more interested electric cars. Also the green propaganda is working efficiently, and a lot of people are buying cars that do not cause polution instead of only how beautiful or modern the car is.
