Wild serow breaks into library in Toyama

TOYAMA —

A wild Japanese serow on Thursday afternoon broke into a public library in Funabashi, Toyama Prefecture. The serow was caught about 1 hour and 15 minutes later and none of the 20 people in the library were injured.

According to police, the Japanese serow is categorized as a special national treasure. The serow was shot with a tranquilizer gun and released later in the mountains.

*The serow was shot with a tranquilizer gun and released later in the mountains. * Wonder how many people also needed a tranquilizer after this event?

Apparently the library has since put up a notice that says 'No wild serows allowed in this library.'

Just as well it was a special national treasure. If it had been a bear cub or an inoshishi it would be in the pot by now.

Kamoshika -- a fascinating animal. (And one I'm proud to say I've observed in the wild.)

On the other hand, I go to the library a lot and so am disappointed that I never found one there.
