Ptolemy to rjd jr. I notice two different standards you hold Japan and the rest of the world to. Read the article closely, it was a chemical found in bug repellant not the MSG. Ptolemy says reading skills are fundamental to a successful life and making friends. By the way, do you even live in Japan, ever lived in Japan or are you commenting from the outside?

It just had all of 30 seconds on the news, channel 1 Nagoya.

Difficult to tell whether it was just the product itself (which is vile) or the alleged bug repellent.

She smelled a chemical odor when she unsealed the cup, it said.--
---was she checking which chemical was added?

Agree totally with some other posters - cup noodles are sickening.
To my olfactory understanding they always have an unnatural chemical smell and contain so much "gunk" they hardly could qualify as food.
She's lucky she vomited and got most of it out of her system quickly before permanent damage was done - pesticide or no pesticide.

She smelled a chemical odor when she unsealed the cup. She ate it anyway?

OOOOh, is taht true. I thought the Japanese were very particular about food, and only wanted top quality products.
Isn't that why they restrict so many foods from entering Japan?
I don't want noodles that taste yucky! Why can't they be more safety orientated?

The Japanese will not make a big deal of this apparently one off case because nobody died. Compare that to all those dead babies in China due to melamine. You think that is remotely comparable??? No, it isn't.
Is tainted rice comparable? No. A lot of that came from China and while no one even got sick, it was widespread. The minister of Agriculture had to step down over that one, I repeat, a minister lost his job, so don't pretend the Japanese have some double standard. The food scandal news tends to last for about as long as it is worthy. This will die a quick death because it isn't, given the facts I have right now. --Cirroc

Caveman - the double standards here are so blatant that it makes you cringe. Research a little on the govt's lax standards re local produce vs imported and you may witness another whole world of "squeezing the common folk".
You are correct though that this isn't newsworthy as the said noodles along with plenty of other produce here are inherently poison anyway.
Eating poison food is part of the daily ritual here for millions.

Do these Cup Noodles have any nutritional content? Wouldn't you get as many calories and just as much nutrition from a gin and tonic? My impression of these soups is that they are cups of salty brown water and MSG. I've never had one, so that's why I'm curious.

I'm starting to think somebody tried to off her or she's trying to collect on a fraudulent claim. Same for the beans, really.

Cup of Noodles isn't known as "junk food" for nothing you know!
Why is everyone so surprised that people are getting sick from eating this crap. Health wise even without the added Ingredients (bug repellant) this stuff is not good for you.

This is likely an attempt to capitalize on the current rash of "tainted" scares. If you open a cup-o-noodles and smell bug repellent, why would you eat it anyway? And, once having done so, why would you wait until the next day after your symptoms disappear to report it? The story also says nothing about her seeking medical treatment. Offer her a blood test to see if she has any bug spray in her. If she refuses, she's guilty.
