A 58-year-old man working at a sewage plant in Tokyo fell into a giant 17-meter deep tank on Friday morning.
A Tokyo Fire Department rescue team was called to the Shibaura Water Reclamation Center in Minato Ward and started draining the tank but so far, the man has not been found, Sankei reported.
According to police and plant officials, the man was one of five workers who were trying to retrieve a 50-kilogram lid that had fallen into the tank at around 10 a.m. The man lost his footing and tumbled into the tank.

Huh, no safety belt? 17 meter is quite a drop, and in sewage, what a horrible way to go.

That is like falling off a 6 story building into a pile of sludge. RIP

The system probably sucked him under. What a nightmare. By the way, the tank is 17 meters deep, how far he fell is not mentioned.

It's like being sucked into an abyss! Though the worker is like being trapped in a desperate situation, the only thing we can do is sit and silently pray for him to make it back alive in one way or another. Best of luck!

Awful!! Sounds like safety was as usual in Japan, a manual in a desk, crazy!
