World Summit of Gastronomy kicks off in Tokyo

TOKYO —

Tokyo Taste - the World Summit of Gastronomy 2009 on Monday kicked off at Tokyo International Forum. The event aims to foster international exchange in cuisine techniques, promotion of Japan’s food culture and so-called “food education” for a healthy eating style.

During the three-day event, 21 top chefs from Japan, France, Spain, Italy, United Kingdom, United States, Australia and China will demonstrate their cooking skills and academically discuss food cultures in the world.

In the opening ceremony, former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, who is the president of the event, said, “I’m glad that top chefs from around the world have gathered here today. I hope the summit will promote Japanese food and we will learn from cuisine from other countries.”

Hope the British brung some chefs who can make decent fisn 'N chips, and pie and mash and liquer. That will show Japanese some real culture, and hopefully they would become popular there like.

More likely though the Japanese media will just go on about how good the Japanese chefs are and that etc etc.

    Youdontknow

Alf - local Irish pub where I live does a cracking Fish n Chips!

Waste of time having this Gastronomy farce because anything the Japanese learn here will be taken away and butchered until molded into their own inventions!
