Light snow fell in all 23 wards in Tokyo for the first time this year.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said 1-3 cms of snow was forecast to fall on the Tokyo metropolitan region overnight and early Wednesday morning.
A cold air mass from the north pushed temperatures down nationwide Tuesday. Tokyo recorded a high of 7 degrees at 2 p.m, 10 degrees lower than Monday.
Police issued an alert to drivers and pedestrians to be careful of slippery roads and sidewalks.

Quiet heavy here too.

There's already more than 3cm outside my window. Earlier it was coming down in huge floaty flakes, now it looks much wetter.

It's been pretty heavy here near Omotesando for the past hour or so.

You call that snow? It's barely a dusting! Quit wingeing.

Slow news day?

Why does someone always write this? No, it is not a 'slow news' day. Have you had a look in the crime, national, world, or politics sections? There is plenty of news and a lot of it is bad. I for one like seeing and reading about something light and nice every once in a while.
The first snow of the year in all of Tokyo's wards is one of those light and nice things. Let people enjoy it.

I wish we could get a little snow here in Jacksonville Florida. But at the push of a button I get current air quality tests at http://epa.gov/radnet/ Japan should have the same machines we have in every state. No snow so I can't have everything.

Heading over to Japan late next week. Hope it's still nice and cold for a while yet. Beats the heat waves we've been having in south-eastern Australia recently.

A big problem with the Kanto Plain is that unlike the cities on the Sea of Japan shoreline, the Tokyo area is not well-equipped to handle snowfalls. Even a medium-sized snowstorm will literally grind Tokyo to a halt, especially the critical commuter rail systems.

Some girl being interviewed on TV in Tokyo said she was surprised at seeing the snow, ha ha
