I always get a laugh out of the idea of nuclear safety "drills." As if, during an actual accident, there is anything people could do other than bend over and kiss their asses goodbye.

What about nuclear safety drills near all of the nuclear power plants in Japan? Why only for the newly-deployed US nuclear carrier? Simply more political scare tactics suggested by those who want the US to leave.

They should be more concerned with conducting earthquake drills or typhoon evacuation drills. Considering there is more of a chance of these. I have lived and worked in Nagoya going on 6 years and they've yet to have city wide drills. I work in one of the tallest buildings in the Marunochi area and no drills or even instructions in Japanese or English available in the building about what to do. Asked building management and they basically laughed and said it is common sense in an emergency what to do.

    Common sense? In Japan?

    Shuuu,

So if your apartment catches on fire, are you going to attempt to put it out and survive or just lay there?
