Never mind that cycling with headphones is technically illegal: it’s also bloody dangerous. Idea International’s Music Balloon is the solution we’ve been waiting for. This brightly colored bauble conceals a powerful speaker, allowing you to enjoy your music without blotting out the outside world. Jack it into your iPod, dangle it from a bag strap and serenade all and sundry as you make your way around the megalopolis. The rechargeable battery lasts for around five hours, and can be topped up by plugging it into your computer’s USB port.
Music Balloon, 3,990 yen. Available at Idea Frames: B2F Omotesando Hills West Bldg, 4-12-10 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku. Tel: 03-5410-1270. (Metropolis)

Earphones on a bike is dangerous - you become far less aware of what's going on around you. It's as though headphones block sight and brain power as well as sound.

Just another gadget to let Japanese tune out. I can easily understand why their population is dropping so sharply -- it's obvious that they can't stand each other.

Earphones on a bike is not cool. But riding a motorbike listening to Metallica, that kicks ass.
Maria be careful, they can also melt your brain and turn you impotent...

i use old fashione headphones on my bicycle, don't have the music to load, i can hear every car near me. First i use those earplug type supplied with my phone, but with those you cannot hear a thing.
And i don't think japanese people will appreciate these ballonblasters
