Anyone for the Serversman?
New Products ( 17 )
We’ve all heard of the Walkman, the Discman and maybe even the Watchman. But the Serversman? Anybody?
The oddly named product is actually a piece of software from Shibuya firm FreeBit that allows the iPhone to function as a web server computer. Once up and running, the Apple handset appears as a normal server, ready for all the up- and downloading action you want to give it.
We’re not at all sure why anyone would want to do that, but the fact that FreeBit named the application after the Walkman and even hired former Sony CEO Nobuyuki Idei to advise it makes it all right with us. Oh, and it’s free. (Metropolis)

Aren't words ending in -man politically incorrect? If there is a Walkman, there should be a Walkwoman and so on.

The "man" is short for "human", whether male or female. Almost all those words ending in "man" are. So get over it.
Or, I motion that a male human now be correctly termed "guy" and the word "man" becomes completely equivalent to "human". Then the name Serversman won't offend the hypersensitive anymore.

This is pretty much baka. A web server needs more processing power than what an iPhone has. It might work in a few years (months?) but not now.

Hi, my name is Shun Fushimi and I'm a member of ServersMan team in FreeBit Corp., Japan. Thanks for noticing ServersMan@iPhone. BTW, we recently released version 2.0 in App Store U.S. for free!
With ServersMan@iPhone, you can use your iPhone as a Web Server. Also you can use it as a Network File Storage too. Both of them don't take you more than 5 minutes. It works on both Wi-Fi and 3G networks (unlike other similar apps!)
Moreover, version 2.0 enables multi-thread processing so your iPhone can be accessed simultaneously from many people just like usual Web Servers.
We made some demo videos of ServersMan so please see the following if you want to know how it works. http://www.youtube.com/user/serversman
Thanks!
