Not for me. I don't like foam on my beer, Foam = less beer in the Glass. :p

Agree with alladin, Zenny & thepro. Whenever I order a mug of beer in a restaurant (which isn't often ) I say "Awa nashi."

if poured right a bit of head on a draft tastes MUCH better than one poured to minimze! But like the rest I want the max beer in my mug when throwing down my yen in an izakaya!

Sort of agree. But than the glasses back home have a line that denotes the minimum amount of Beer that needs to go into it. Ditto for cool-drinks.
None of this add foam or ice to make up the volume.
OTOH, it looks like a fun-gimmick to amuse the guys that come over to watch a game, etc.

Sure, there is less beer in the glass when you buy it in the pub. But getting the right amount of foam and getting it to stick in the glass is a real art. It takes about 10 minutes to do it correctly.The picture seems to be a bit misleading of this new gadget since you can't really see the consistancy of the foam, it looks way too watery to me. I love my foam on the beer, on my cappuccino and in the bathtub.

Foam on Cappuccino and bath-tub is fine.
Article don't say but I would assume the gadget uses some form of cartridge.
Said that a good head(of foam) can be tasty.

A lot of the izakayas I go to don't pour so much foam but man, some really do. A little bit tastes better than none at all for some reason but too much is a big taste turn off.

If you're slamming beers, a head just gets in the way. But if you're drinking beer to enjoy its flavor, a little bit of a head (no more than an inch, really) is a must. The head is what releases the aroma.

There are so many things I miss about Japan but being served (and charged for) a half glass of froth every time I ordered a beer isn't one of them. Best thing the breweries ever did in in the UK was placing the tide mark on our pint glasses - sorry, 568ml glasses.

What about proper pubs= British pubs?
Do they make a "glassing" device too? Because there's nothing like a few shards of glass in the face to make the British pub experience more realistic.
I think we all know that Japanese culture gives more importance to the look of something, rather than the taste/worth.

At least HUB does it right. But there are other places that supposedly "specialize" in beer but only give you a third glass of it, the other two-thirds being foam. I think maybe the worst culprit there is Kirin City. At cheaper izakaya I've come to just think of the foam as a trade-off for paying half price for the beer.
This is exactly why whenever I go out, I pound two from the convenience store and then have one at the bar.
