Cheapest Blu movies yet
New Products ( 3 )
Blu-ray has yet to reach the critical mass needed to become mainstream—partly because of fear of the unknown, but also because the hardware has been a little expensive. Which is, presumably, why Panasonic has just blessed us with the 50,000 yen DMP-BD60 to kick start the cheap end of the market.
The new deck doesn’t record, but it does support the BD-Live standard that allows it to go online to grab the latest content associated with a particular movie. If the BD60 starts turning up in Bic Camera and the like for something closer to 35,000 yen later this year, we might just have to take another look at the format. You can already get a BD player for much cheaper than that, it's called a PS3. Easy to get those for 35,000. You get the ability to play games, too.
The bigger problem is the 5000 yen movies. 5000 yen! No way, Jose.
