Japan is famous for its sometimes bizarre flavors of food and drinks. Colas are no exceptions. We've had cucumber, shiso (a minty green herb) and azuki (red bean)-flavored cokes. Now, Suntory (which markets Pepsi in Japan) has launched Pepsi Baobab as part of a World Cup promotion. If you are wondering what a baobab is – it’s a species of tree in Africa. Pepsi Baobab has a refreshing spicy flavor that is inspired by the baobab fruit. On sale for 140 yen.
Meanwhile, something called Green Cola has appeared on the market. Don't be fooled by the name; it is not one of Coca-Cola's novelty drinks, but a concoction from Asahi Soft Drinks. The zero-caffeine drink costs 140 yen a bottle.

"Pepsi Baobab has a refreshing spicy flavor that is inspired by the baobab fruit". The key word here is "inspired". That would mean artificial flavor and no actual baobab fruit.

What is a "green cola" anyway? And the logo certainly was designed to confuse people into believing in its a Coca-Cola product. Sad that Asahi would stoop to that. Especially when Japan is complaining to anyone who will listen about how China does not do enough to protect international brands or logos.

What is a "green cola" anyway? A cola that is manufactured, bottled, transported and sold all without doing any harm to the environment.

herefornow, I think you are the confused one.

I wonder if Coke's green cola is anything like Pepsi Blue :P

sakurala-- Oh eww. Pepsi Blue is/was so nasty. I found that the one time out of three that I drank it and it wasn't disgusting was when it was practically frozen and it was kinda like a slushy. There are just some things you're not supposed to do to cola... I still really want to try this one though.

You can drink the Green Cola to wash down that wierd aftertaste from the Soylent Green wafers you eat.
The Pepsi cucumber a few years ago had a strong chemical taste. A friend made his own using real Pepsi (and then other drink mixes) and real cucumbers and it actually tasted good. Another friend packed a few bottles of the Azuki Pepsi when he moved back to the USA and some Americans really liked it.
Will have to track down some Baobab soon and give it a taste test.

I don't understand why Pepsi tolerates Suntory's annual assaults on its brand equity.

bicutural -- no, I don't think so. Put a bottle of this stuff next to a bottle of Coca Cola and tell me there is not a distinct similarity in the type styles of the logos. And, Kapuna, if that is the definition, then this product is NOT green. It is in a plastic bottle, is delivered via thousands of trucks that polute the air, and, is distributed in too many vending machines to count, which all waste electricity and use toxic gases to work.
