Two of Disney’s best-known characters are getting a makeover this month with the launch of Rootote’s “The Artists Who Love Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse” series. The company asked 54 artists, designers and illustrators to create original graphics featuring the wholesome twosome, which were then printed onto canvas bags.

The resulting artwork features everything from the expected cutesy, heart-covered motifs to ’40s-inspired Vargas Girls and Mickey as a leather-clad rocker. The bags will be on sale for 3,675 yen at Shinjuku Isetan from Sept 16-29 (www.isetan.co.jp), the Rootote Gallery in Daikanyama from Sept 17-30 (www.rootote.com/en) and all three Bals Tokyo locations from Sept 18-October 15 (www.balstokyo.com).
