Electric kettle that beeps when water boils

Toshiba Home Appliances has a new electric kettle that beeps when water is boiled. It takes approximately 72 seconds for a mug of water to boil, and the beeping sound is loud enough for the user to hear from a distance. The kettle features a timer that shuts off automatically 10 minutes after the water has boiled.
The electric kettle can boil up to 0.8 liters of water. One version has a retractable power cord. Open price, retail price expected to be approximately 7,000-8,000 yen. The product also features a boil-dry safety mechanism and a lock button that prevents water from pouring unless the button is pressed.

These one-cup kettles, Tefal etc, didn't have any notification that the water was ready, like a hot pot. Old people and kids have been burned, the warning lets another family member know that someone's playing with the kettle! :-)

The design is bad, the color too, the only good thing is that it switches off automatically and won't cause a fire.

How stupid! What's wrong with just a plain whistle? I think it's short-sighted to run everything we have with electricity or batteries. Would fit right in, though, with those new-style homes displayed on one J TV architectural show, where all the home interiors seem to be white or black or cement, without any sense of life in them. And certainly Toshiba could have found a way to connect this wirelessly to one's keitai or talking fridge or microwave. Which users will be able to hear the beep, btw? Is this one of their new products for the aging society?

Everything in this country is talking, beeping, buzzing or playing jingly music at us. So much it can be hard to hear yourself think.
Give the noise a rest guys. How about making a pot that intuitively makes your drink for you and brings it to you so you don't need to hear anything.

It beeps? That's pretty amazing. Just 10 years ago water-boilers turned themselves off once boiling, but DURING their beeping. But thanks to this new technology you're require to get up and manually turn it off, making it an multi-use exercise device.

Using gas for boiling water is still using energy...
It turns itself off.
Why bother? Because some people like to heat just enough fresh water to make their tea, it takes too long to use up the 2.2 liters many pots take, if it's a couple or someone living alone. I don't want to drink water that's been sitting in a pot for more than a day.

10 years ago who'd thought of that? Besides the ones that produced the water-boilers that turned themselves off once boiling.
Why bother indeed. Why fill up a water-boiler with as much water as you like, when now, the boiler is smaller, so it doesn't fill it up to the rim for you?

Granted, there are probably some uses for these small things as noisily dumb as they seem, like maybe in each unit in capsule hotels. Well... but then I can't imagine all of them going off beeping. Would really never get any sleep then, honeycomb bedlam. But size-wise, that and 1-2 person hotel rooms might be their only real worthwhile markets.

I've got one of these, by another maker though. Got it for free with my "points" at an electronics store. Best thing ever. Use it everyday.

I'm with "kapuna" - just boil your water in the microwave or in a good old fashion whistling kettle. Sheeeeesh... Now, heated toilet seats - if only those were exported to the West at an affordable price, Japan would be recession-proof!
