Is your book bleeding?

They say: “The shape makes it appear as if the bookmark is melting.” We say: dude, is your book bleeding? Kyouei Design’s liquid bookmark is just the thing for Halloween season. Slap one of these babies on your tome of choice, pull it out while riding the train, and just watch your fellow passengers’ eyebrows rise.

Designer Koichi Okamoto pours the silicon for every one himself, meaning that each is unique. Just to add to the creep factor, the bookmarks come shrink-wrapped in a plastic container that makes them look like some kind of medical sample. If it’s all too much, choose one of the other, more prosaic colors: gray and white.

Kyouei Liquid Bookmark, 1,050 yen. Available from Roppongi Hills Art and Design Store and other design boutiques.

Sure, it's a fun idea, why not. i have to say though, I have a bunch of nice bookmarks, but nothing beats a receipt, or folding the corner in, to keep your place.

the white one could turn some heads on the yamanote

...I don't know that the white one is such a good idea.

Another "improvement" by the Japanese on another country's original invention.

Cheaper just to rub a steak or something on your book, I would think. More realistic, too. With the flies and all. Hopefully a couple of blue bottle fly maggots would take. Halloween!

Color is not like blood at all. And the shape is like melted wax, not blood. So, I'd say the design by Okamoto-san is a failure. If I really really wanted to look like an emo bookworm that gets sloppy with his strawberry scented candles I'd by his bookmark.

It's pretty gross, red or white. Blehh. Pink or blue or green would be OK, IMHO.

Just what we need in copy-cat crime Japan, huh?

And only 1,050 yen!? What a bargain. Better rush right out before they all sell out.

More overpriced useless junk. Meanwhile, 100 yen store across Japan are packed, and jeans are available for 880 yen a pair. The people making expensive "design boutique" products are likely to find themselves with a decreasing customer base.

The white one is useful for bookmarking hentai manga, always gets a second look.
