Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Japan will release 4 new kinds of doughnuts from March 15 as part of its new menu for spring. The new goodies are Pure Banana, Rare Cheese Cake, Coffee Beans and Soy Milk Cake.
Pure Banana is a shell-shaped doughnut featuring very creamy condensed milk and adorned with maple sugar and banana chips.
Rare Cheese Cake is decorated with grape pieces from France, and is topped with a lemon sauce.
The Coffee Beans doughnut is topped with espresso beans and has coffee milk cream filling.
The Soy Milk Cake is an original old-fashioned Krispy Kreme doughnut made with soy milk.
Each doughnut costs 180 yen.

Yeah, they overexpanded and had some kangaroo accounting going back then. Their donuts were always good, though.

that is pretty sad that you can buy a share of stock for what a donut and a drink costs....excellent donuts though it is not due to taste that the stock has fallen

I am still amazed that people stand in line for these donuts. I mean, your basic super market donuts in the US is as good, if not sometimes better, than the insanely sweet KKDs.
I miss Winchells and Dunkins. No line, great tasting donuts and no foolish hype.

Its funny, when KK came into Japan, it was headed into its' twilight in the US. Now it seems to be pretty popular in ol' Nippon, whereas the US has swung decidedly back towards Dunkin Donuts.

motogaijin, I think that has happened several times before. I believe 7-11 Japan is doing much better than the original 7-11. Mister Donuts is big in Japan, but I believe gone from the States. Also can't forget Tower Records. But there are many examples of chains that didn't make it here too. Just down to who has better management I guess. Wish they would open a Krispy Kreme in Hiroshima, but that's like wishing for a burger King in Hiroshima. There was a BK here, when they originally came to Japan. There was a Taco Time too...

All well and good but no donut is worth waiting in line for over an hour, which happens every week in shinjuku and will be longer now that there is something atarashi!

Go to the one in Kawasaki and you don't have to wait long usually. I think the one at Yurakucho has short lines too.

I wonder if they'll ever 'localize' the donuts and introduce less sweet versions to cater to traditional Japanese palates. Personally I find them a tad sweet for my liking.
Though, with the long lines I'm seeing in the Shinjuku shop it seems like the locals don't mind them as they are.
Can anyone say Type 2 diabetes.

Not to mention much cheaper! Regular price for their donuts is around 135 yen, and they often have 100 yen days.

No wonder meta-bol is becoming a problem in Japan, but I'll let other people worry about that ;)
But, are these donuts really that good? I had a couple my wife bought for me, and I thought better her than me lining up for 45 minutes just to get them. I'll look for something more suited to my sophisticated palate.

So Japan's Krispy Kreme donuts are as sweet as the American version? I was thinking that they might have adjusted the ingredients to suit the taste preferences of the Japanese people (as you know many chains will do when operating overseas). Those in Japan generally do not heavily sweeten foods like they do in America, so I'm surprised that KK is doing well there.

Actually there is a really tasty japanese relatively healthy donut brand called HARADONUTS. They have a shop in Kyoto and it has become my favourite donuts now. Many interesting flavors to choose from. Sure Krispy Kreme is delicious stuff, but i prefer Haradonuts.

i have tried the donuts in Japan and they taste very similar.
Lines are way shorter in Shibuya as the novelty has worn off.
This business seems to go well with Japanese "Just in time" efficiency, but recently their donuts are getting cold and stale.
